Ducati Scrambler Demo Day today and tomorrow at La Honda (just west of Alice's.) There are eight demo Ducati Scramblers there waiting for you. I rode the 800 and the new 400. The new cafe version with the number 54 on the side sure looks good. Go sit in their tent and meet the demo lead Eric, his beautiful assistant Leslie, and the two ride leads, Channing and Adam, nice folks. They will also be at Laguna Seca next week for the FIM Superbike. I don't work for Ducati or anything.

Yeah Hank thanks much for posting this. I didn't see it listed anywhere else. They are doing it again tomorrow too. Super nice folks out there. :)

Today was the first of three days that Ducati will be out at Fort Mason. I went early this morning and got to do the first two rides, before I needed to skedaddle. There was hardly anyone there. Both of the rides I did only had two people checking out bikes.

The route is through the Presidio, and it's quite a fun route. The cover many of the fun roads.

This time I rode the Cafe Scrambler. It's an amazingly fun bike--I liked it a lot. It's got just enough power that you aren't really asking for more, but is easy to apply. It handles really well, the brakes are nice because they upgrade them on the Cafe, and the clutch is still super easy. Fueling was smooth, the engine braking doesn't try to buck you off, and the gear box was not quite as smooth as the Panigale, but it was nice.

It's totally free, and the Ducati folks are all really nice (WAY WAY WAY nicer than the Suzuki demo cats--those dude were nasty grumpy bastards!). There are skate boards, guitars, lemonade, fancy coffee, and snacks. Lots of space for hanging out if you have to wait, but it didn't seem very busy at all today, or the time I went there when it was on HWY84. The Ducati demos that I've been on have been way different than the Japanese bike demos. They take you on fun roads, and while you don't get to fully open up the bikes we got to have a good time with them.

One of the guys did a custom job on his, and brought it along. It's the powder blue bike with the gold swing arm, frame, and wheels.

I went to a big Aprilia demo one time. I was interested in the big Atlantic scooter. The dance card for the scooter was wide open so the guy says, just go where you want and come back in 30 or 40 minutes. 10 minutes later I was going 100mph down the freeway. Not my fault, the guy said it would go 100mph, I was just making sure he was telling the truth.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Here now waiting for a 1pm ride on the Cafe model.

Yeah you betcha! It's great that more folks get to check this out.

Yup not your fault!

What's the 400 V-Twin like? How's it run? Any power?

I rode the 400 when they did this in La Honda on HWY84. Basically it's a sleeved 800. The rest of the engine is the same. They do this in Japan because of the tiered licensing step at 400cc. The 400 also has a less capable front brake/fork to lower the costs--since the engine basically costs the same, and people expect a price drop if there is a displacement drop (small penis syndrome). It's a shame though, because the cost differential is well worth the better forks and brakes. So for the money the 400 isn't as good of a value. But for people that aren't ready for an 800, or just want smaller displacement they get screwed by the SPS mentality of our nation.

As is expected it has less power, but it scoots along nicely. Much smoother than say the KTM 390 engine. Handling is pretty nice, but I had trouble adapting to the bars. I'm so use to the sport bike position that the 400 scrambler bars felt like ape hangers--they aren't of course, but felt that way to me. lolz

They'll be out there on Sunday too. Go take it for a test ride. Just try to keep it under a hundred in the Presidio would you? :ride

What time does it start? I can walk over there easily and would like to sign up early if possible.
Edit I'm an idiot never mind.

Also I didn't realize there was a Starbucks in the Presidio.

I went today. The route was cool but a bit too many cars, although we had a few opportunities to open up.

Nice to see lots of women on the test rides!

There was at least one BARFer present, as I saw a Multi with BARF plate cover.

I took the Scrambler with the Termis, my wife took the sixty2 400cc, and my buddy took a basic one.

It was cool but I'm not a fan of the suspension. I wanted to try the Desert Sled model with beefed up shocks but the test ride was booked for a few hours on that one.

The stock Termis sound good for factory pipes. The bikes certainly looked cool, my wife hated the high stock bars, although low bars and clipons are a factory option. She still prefers her Ninja300.

The fact that they made the test drive beside some hipster coffee shop with $6 triple latte machhiatos was pretty ironic, they know their demographic!

Overall, a fun ride and very well organized. Thanks, Ducati!
