AFM #990
APOLOGY/WARNING:
This post is not really about detoxing from Ducati, rather it is about detoxing from riding my Hypermotard...
"Ducati Detox" just sounded snappier than "Hypermotard Detox." :laughing
Moving on:
Last Saturday I sold my Hypermotard, which I had been riding since 2009.
Prior to the Hypermotard I was on a KTM SM, and prior to that I was on a DRZ 400SM....
My point is that I have been in an upright riding position ever since I started riding 6 years ago.
Unfortunately, in the last year I developed a lower back problem that made riding the Hyper increasingly uncomfortable.
So, a couple of months ago I started sitting on every bike I could, to find a bike that felt comfortable for me.
The result of this search led me to the GSXR bikes :devil ...
Since I had no experience riding sportbikes, horsepower :angel generously offered to loan me one of her CBR600's, and last Sunday
(the day after I sold the Hyper), we rode in the PTT C Group at Sonoma Raceway, so I could see what it was like to ride a sportbike all day ...
Being on the CBR was such a foreign experience, I was pretty freaked out and riding totally retarded... :x,
but, over the course of the day, Dani helped me learn to ride with a bit more panache, and I decided the GSXR was going to be doable.
Monday after work, I test rode a 2013 GSXR 750 at a local dealership up here in Humboldt County (Eureka Motorsports),
and Tuesday morning we (dtrides and myself) purchased it! arty
Immediately after purchasing it, a serious case of buyer's remorse set in.....
... Tuesday night I slept only two hours. :wtf ...I felt sick to my stomach...:green ...I was nervous and worried I had made a huge mistake...:confused.
As the Talking Heads song so aptly put it: "You may say to yourself, my god, what have I done?!" :cry
...My week was agonizing. Fuck! ....I shoulda bought a Multistrada, a Triumph Tiger, a BMW 800, anything more upright!
What was I thinking? :facepalm
~breathe~
Yesterday, Friday, me and DT took our bikes for a short spin out Highway 36 to Bridgeville, and ....
Wahoooo!!!!! :banana Let the grinning begin! :teeth This new girl is going to work out just fine :thumbup
There are sooooo many things I like better about this bike than the Hyper, I barely know where to begin... so I won't.
Mostly, I just wanted to share with y'all that it was super, duper hard going from motards to a sportbike, but,
I made it through a week of detox and feel clean now ...
...the shakes :loco, nerves, cravings :smoking, regret , and whining :blah are behind me....
...as well as valve checks every 6K :rofl).
I still have a lot to learn and a long way to go, but the hard part is over.
I did not do this on my own, so, thank you to:
horsepower, dtrides, lonster, banjoboy, 4theriders joe, and to the eccentric dashing Danish horse trainer at PTT for helping me get clean and sober. :hail
SPORTBIKE on my favorite roads, here we come!! :ride
