Ducati Detox

APOLOGY/WARNING:
This post is not really about detoxing from Ducati, rather it is about detoxing from riding my Hypermotard...
"Ducati Detox" just sounded snappier than "Hypermotard Detox." :laughing

Moving on:

Last Saturday I sold my Hypermotard, which I had been riding since 2009.
Prior to the Hypermotard I was on a KTM SM, and prior to that I was on a DRZ 400SM....
My point is that I have been in an upright riding position ever since I started riding 6 years ago.

Unfortunately, in the last year I developed a lower back problem that made riding the Hyper increasingly uncomfortable.
So, a couple of months ago I started sitting on every bike I could, to find a bike that felt comfortable for me.
The result of this search led me to the GSXR bikes :devil ...

Since I had no experience riding sportbikes, horsepower :angel generously offered to loan me one of her CBR600's, and last Sunday
(the day after I sold the Hyper), we rode in the PTT C Group at Sonoma Raceway, so I could see what it was like to ride a sportbike all day ...

Being on the CBR was such a foreign experience, I was pretty freaked out and riding totally retarded... :x,
but, over the course of the day, Dani helped me learn to ride with a bit more panache, and I decided the GSXR was going to be doable.

Monday after work, I test rode a 2013 GSXR 750 at a local dealership up here in Humboldt County (Eureka Motorsports),
and Tuesday morning we (dtrides and myself) purchased it! :party

Immediately after purchasing it, a serious case of buyer's remorse set in.....
... Tuesday night I slept only two hours. :wtf ...I felt sick to my stomach...:green ...I was nervous and worried I had made a huge mistake...:confused.
As the Talking Heads song so aptly put it: "You may say to yourself, my god, what have I done?!" :cry
...My week was agonizing. Fuck! ....I shoulda bought a Multistrada, a Triumph Tiger, a BMW 800, anything more upright!
What was I thinking? :facepalm

~breathe~

Yesterday, Friday, me and DT took our bikes for a short spin out Highway 36 to Bridgeville, and ....

Wahoooo!!!!! :banana Let the grinning begin! :teeth This new girl is going to work out just fine :thumbup
There are sooooo many things I like better about this bike than the Hyper, I barely know where to begin... so I won't.

Mostly, I just wanted to share with y'all that it was super, duper hard going from motards to a sportbike, but,
I made it through a week of detox and feel clean now ...
...the shakes :loco, nerves, cravings :smoking, regret :(, and whining :blah are behind me....
...as well as valve checks every 6K :rofl).
I still have a lot to learn and a long way to go, but the hard part is over.

I did not do this on my own, so, thank you to:
horsepower, dtrides, lonster, banjoboy, 4theriders joe, and to the eccentric dashing Danish horse trainer at PTT for helping me get clean and sober. :hail

SPORTBIKE on my favorite roads, here we come!! :ride

buying a new bike is like buying a new pair of shoes. you know that the old shoes are more comfortable, but you have to force yourself through a bit of discomfort before the new ones are as comfortable as the old ones.

you are just lucky that you still dont have the duc still in your garage, because i guarantee you would revert to riding that thing, when you HAVE to force yourself through the foreign feeling before its an extension of your body again.

My Hyper babe was freaked out for sure ...like:wtf what did I just do and can I undo it!.
I made some small adjustments and we went for a put out hwy 36 to Bridgeville and parked at the big pull out.
I had noted to myself her pace was already good (too good damit, I know I will be the clean up rider:twofinger)for a new bike, cool damp road etc.
We chatted and I reassured her we could make some changes to give it a little more comfort ergonomically but mainly she just needs to ride it and get some miles on her.
So she asks, can she ride my Tiger back to town for a comparison as she was actually considering one as well as the $$$$ Ducati Multi-strudle.
No need to ask me twice:teeth:party:ride.
I take off and am amazed at what a awesome bike this is (my last sprot bike was a 05 CBR 1K RR)! I am haveing a blast and doing the best to control myself:teeth.
Long story short, we get home and share notes. She was amazed at how comfortable and warm she was on her new bike compared to my road couch.
The deal was sealed, now she hooked on this new strange sportbile thing.
We did some more easy miles today and she said it is sooo much more comfy on the free way vs all the naked bikes she has owned to date.
Can't wait for things to warm and dry up so we can go visit some of our favorite roads.
if she decides it's not for her I will gladly just swap spots in the garage with her:p.

You are just moving from cocaine to crack. Later with a little more time, you might put regular handlebars on your sportbike and find true happiness. But you have to let the demons run for now, later you'll understand.

Well, I worried about the who I marry part too. That's how I found dtrides :love

Yep, that 2013 stroodle is nice, I guess it was meant to be that it wasn't in the budget for me right now; the moto gods work in mysterious ways :teeth.

The gsxr 750 is a great bike I have a 2005. Ive owned it for about five days now, I came off from a r6. Although I did get in trouble with the gsxr the second day owning it...

Here's one from today. I'm backing out of lonster's driveway. Lost my balance on the way out shortly after this. The steering lock on this bike is so limited compared to the Hyper.... I don't know how you people turn these things!:laughing

Oh, I know, how embarrassing are those!? :blush
I'm working on it, but it's going to take some practice before I feel comfortable on this different style of bike though.... so, don't hold your breath :teeth

Turn it? You just give it a fist full of throttle, and slide in sideways :flame:flame (like your sig)

And don't look at it as me being right. Look at it as you finally finding the best sport bike around, and just enjoy it. Now we can be right together!:thumbup

Congrats!!! :)
Just kind of off topic.. what is Barf Roadside Angel?? :ride

Gixxergirl1000 can explain the Barf Roadside Angel better than I, but it is a "tag" given to people who have rescued a BARFer in need. A couple of summers ago a BARFer crashed out on highway 36, and I drove our truck out there and helped bring the bike to our garage for safekeeping while the rider was overnight in the hospital.... :thumbup
