Door smashing in cage..accident

A co-worker of opened her Audi's door about 12 inches and it caught up on a full size Ford truck quarter panel. Panel junk, Audi door and front quarter trashed.

The only other case I know about was on Geary my buddy whipped into a parking space and took off the door of a Subi. Insurance essentially blamed the door opener.

The lady has a husband just diagnosed with lung cancer and probably wasn't paying enough attention, but the road is wide and the parent driver of the truck is a known speeder and beotch.

Any recourse? Pics were taken and all that. NApe :(

Not good. (IIRC it's usually the door opener who is found at fault.)

CVC section 22517. No person shall open the door of a vehicle on the side
available to moving traffic unless it is reasonably safe to do so and
can be done without interfering with the movement of such traffic,
nor shall any person leave a door open on the side of a vehicle
available to moving traffic for a period of time longer than
necessary to load or unload passengers.

Damn. I didn't want to tell her that. She's house rich and vested, she'll be OK, but I was just wondering...NApe

Yes, door opener is always at fault, liable for damages just like she ran into someone. I do believe many drivers have trouble here. Also, many cagers, most often in Santa Cruz, fail to understand that when entering the freeway, THEY MUST adjust their speed to the freeway speed and merge when safe. If not, they have to adjust and yield to traffic. If traffic is moving at 65, they should be merging at 65, not causing brake lights by insisting a 45/55 merge, then getting up to speed minutes later. A lotta people seem to think that everyone on the freeway must get out of the merger's way. No, but they find out, the hard way, when they hit someone.

Although this lady is bitch at work, I feel for her and her car and husband. I'm sure she's nice when not on the job. Ape

Well, I monitor the main drag and my partner who's been there 8 years says so. I observed her pushing/blocking other cars. Schools keep records like police. She's a known gang affiliate and reckless driver. And nobody likes her because her kids are out of control, which led to the scrutiny..NApe

The person opening the door has the responsibility to ensure it is safe to do so. No mention in the code about whether the fault changes if the driver is a beotch. :laughing

Bro, for the record, as I've studied women all my life, since they are such lovely creatures, if she's a bitch at work, then she's ten time a bitch at home.

This rule does NOT transfer to males. I worked with some hard headed and the toughest dudes at work, but at their home, anytime, parties, bullshitting, grabbing a bottle of water from their house, just the opposite.

And that, my friend, one just one major difference between the sexes.
