Does anyone have any M10 reverse thread allen bolts?

I got some new mirrors that mount using M10 allen bolts. They gave me 2 right hand thread and 1 left hand thread bolts with the mirrors.

Problem is both sides are reverse thread on this bike. Not sure why Kawasaki did that! Normally you would have reverse on right and normal on left so that mirrors spin if they hit something.

Anyway, now I am looking for a single reverse thread M10 allen bolt, fine thread pitch. If anyone has one!!!

McMaster Carr.

That said, I cannot imagine that the factory would do that. Especially for mirrors. Are you SURE??

Yes. I thought my mind was playing tricks with me. Both are reverse thread. They screw into little risers and I think Kawasaki for whatever reason made the left riser reverse.

The risers are in tight - otherwise would just remove.

Very weird.

Other than aftermarket, would the factory have what you need?

Fixed! I ended up removing factory risers to get down to actual lever mounts - which were both RH!

I'm gonna lose my mind!

Will post pics when I get.to my puter.

They are a little shiny because I put some stuff on them to protect them. Will look more matte once it dries. About $20/set from China. The Japanese ones are about $140 per set.

China? Is that the reason why they have a left thread? You can usually find screws or bolts on eBay, but be sure to measure the diameter, pitch and bolt length properly before you order anything. There are 1000s of different threads available, my standards book from college was only about 1000 pages.

They came with 3 M10 and 3 M8 allen head bolts.

Of the 3 bolts in each size, 2 were RH and 1 was LH.

The factory extensions on the Kawasaki screwed into RH on both sides (the lever housings were both RH thread). But the female part of the factory extensions was LH on both sides. This means that the factory mirrors that screw into both sides were LH thread.

Makes no sense!!!

Every Jap bike I ever messed with mirrors, one side was reverse threads. This is so that if you hit the mirror, it rotates in and doesn't break.

Yup. I know. That's why this is so weird. Just to make sure that I am really not going crazy - I checked the one leftover M10 bolt. It's LH. That means that the bike lever brackets have RH on *both* sides.

What's also strange is that both the risers converted the RH to LH on both sides. None of this makes sense.

What really! makes no sense is early Dodge cars had left and right lug nuts.....

Yup. ripped the studs off Mom's Dart before I figured that out. Had one of those big ole cross lug nut wrenches and had my brother jump on it to try and bust the lug nuts loose. It took me 3 studs before I figured it out.

I used to have a Dart and I know what you are talking about. The reason was that the engineers figured out that bolts threaded the opposite (same?) as wheel spin would not spin off as easily. Or something like that.

I think all earlier MOPARS were like that. They basically DGAF!!

Little known fact. The humble Slant Six had 4 bolt mains.

Would be interesting to figure out what they should be. Perhaps someone on production line got confused or was drunk.

OMG!

That made me think. I looked at the factory mirrors and they are made by Toyo and both have same part number. They are also reversible.

I think they are literally both right mirrors!

I think Kawasaki probably got a great deal on a boatload of right (LH thread) mirrors and just used the risers to convert them over to RH thread. The bike doesn't otherwise need the risers BTW. The mirrors have long stalks that clear everything.

Still doesn't explain the 2 RH thread lever mounts - but probably explains the mirrors.
