Do You Road Bike?

Conversion is spendy

Switching to a triple means new crank, bottom bracket, both derailleurs, and left shifter. Chain too. Better idea is to get a 12-27 rear cassette, which will help with climbing. Or get an 11-30 or 12-32 from the mtn. group and use a XT or XTR rear derailleur. New chain too.

I have chores.

I am going to try and sneak out for a couple of hours early sunday, but I can't commit to a specific time. I would like to organize some mtn bike time if the weather stays dry for the next few days.

Has anyone converted over to a triple crank from a double. I've been thinking about changing over my Dura-Ace cranks and have been wondering what's involved in the change over, such as, will my existing front derailer, shifter, and bottom bracket work.

Quick Note: If you do go this route, you might consider NOT getting the Dura-Ace triple crank. Reason: the bolt circle diameter of the inner (smallest) chainring is Dura-Ace only.
I replaced my Dura-Ace triple crank with an Ultegra Crank so that I could use standard Mtn Bike sized 74 mm bolt circle diameter chain rings (read smaller !).

Sorry Roxy, gonna be doing a long (17-22 mile) mt. bike ride on Sat. The weather has been to good to pass up all the dry terrain. I don't know if you mt. bike but if you do and you think you're up to puttin' in some long hard miles you're welcome to join us. Not sure where we are going yet.

I'm thinking about doing Mt. Hamilton this weekend, not sure if I am in shape for it yet. I will definitely be doing something in the Woodside/Sky Londa area if I don't do Mt. Ham though.

Hey Roxy,

I might put together a beginning / intermediate ride for my triathlon training group this Sunday. IM / PM me if you're interested!

Normally I'd be very interested (I just went to the Diablo summit with Harpo a couple of weeks ago), but I'm already planning on doing about 15-20 miles of aggressive mountain biking Sunday morning. Saturday is already all booked up.

I'll stay in touch Mikey. Seems I might be able to meet you on Sunday morning as well if I don't kill myself (not literally) on Saturday.

Just checked the forecast - we're gonna be lucky to squeeze out the mtb ride before the rains get here (we're going to be at the trailhead at 7 AM)

Weather is perfect, the grass is green, got a new bike & no job till September. If anybody wants to go for a weekday ride let me know. Don't care where or how long, I just been riding and smiling. Been doing mostly 30-50 mile rides, but whatever works.

I've been using my house as a starting/ending point and exploring as far as I can. I've gone down to Redwood city, done the city loop in many different ways, down to Canada Road, etc.. It's great because I live on a hill and it is very rewarding to have to climb it to get home since walking or calling for help is not an option. I've only been at it for 1.5 weeks, but here's some pictures. It's so awesome riding all these empty roads though!!!!!! I think I'm ready to start driving down the Pennisula and exploring south of Canada, but I'd love to hit Mt Diablo or Mt. Tam, as I've never done either.

Ahhh, nice weather is here which means more rides til sundown!:banana
I bolt my high power MTB light on, and go well after sundown (or even before sunrise). In some ways, I prefer it to daytime riding!

Semi Long Road Ride Sunday morning May 21
