an inside view:

riding a motorcycle in the Tour de France

".....I also did two training camps in Fontainebleau with the Gendarmerie, which is organised by ASO.

But I would actually like to set up a training facility where I can train future motorcyclists for the bike races,
where eventually they would get a diploma that allows them to drive in the races. I would love that
....."

Anyone following Eric Byrnes and his Tri Across America? He’s doing roughly 100 Miles a day from here to Chicago then running from Chicago to Ny. Guy is an animal.

Bought my first road bike off craigslist. Put some elbow grease into it and took my first ever bicycle ride as an adult. Rode ~25miles round trip from East SJ to REI in Saratoga via the Los Gatos Creek Trail. Promptly bought some padded shorts from REI for the ride back :rofl

Lessons learned:
- padded shorts are essential
- locking out your elbows is painful
- small hills feel like huge hills
- pedals hurt when they hit your leg

All in all, it was a great ride and I look forward to putting in some more miles and possibly commuting to work on a bicycle!

Glad you got out there. Have fun.

Don't be so quick to write off cycling in regular clothes. I have a closet full of cycling specific clothes but for rides under 40 miles I usually just wear regular clothing. Could be any number of things besides lack of bike shorts. Saddle itself, position on the bike, butt just isn't used to being on a bike...

Deal of the frickin century!!! I saw these speedplay specific Sidis on ebay listed new, in my size for 75 bucks. i bought them right away. the shop wrote me the next day and said "just to let you know, we messed up on the price listing. it was meant to be listed at $275, but we will honor your purchase. please leave a positive review. thank you and enjoy". So with the cash i saved, i bought a new set of pedals and a titanium spindle for them. absolute score!

What if any phone mount do you guys use? I took my bike to Atascadero over the weekend to ride before a weeding. Was a pain in the arse to stuff my phone in my bib and pull it out to check maps etc.

Bunch of $10 elastic bar mounts on eBay and Amazon that look intriguing. I don’t need anything super pricey.

REI has on closeout a Topeak Ridecase mount for Iphone 6/6s. Regular $90 setup for $27.

It's a weatherproof case and two mounts; stem cap mount and a bar mount.

The instructions say NOT to use the stem cap mount with carbon fork/steerers. Can someone explain why? Something to do with the compression plug?

Seems fine to me, I just mounted it. It's much cleaner than mounting it on the bar non-centered.

I may actually return it and order this one from amazon. Same design but this way I can have a case with sticky clip solely for my bike. The topeak case it not one I'd want in my pocket at work.

I recently snagged a $13-on-sale-@-REI Timbuktu top tube bento box with a top window pocket for i6 - kinda clunky, some storage, more bulk than your approach

think I'll look that new REI sale up......

FLCL?
They are probably being overly conservative. So that if someone over tightens the shit out of it and cracks the carbon steer they don't get sued.

Picked this up yesterday. SMP Drakon

Was riding an old forte that started causing pain around the 20 mile mark. Tried a stubby 'tri' type saddle new from performance bike and around the 20 mile mark it was discomfort.

Hoping this SMP will help that. Read the setting it up takes time to find the sweet spot with angle of nose.

Hey Dubbs,

If you don't like that saddle I invested in a Selle Anatomica X2 saddle, I bought one used off FB classifieds and loved it so much I bought another for my race bike. Expensive but worth it, and I heard about it from this thread. :laughing
