DMV vin identification

I there a website for checking about back fees using the license number and/or the VIN? I ask because I want to look at a bike this weekend, and have been told it's on non-op, but I want to know for sure that there are no back fees, no lien, etc. I am a AAA member, but the local office is closed on weekends.

Thanks,
Bob.

to use the dmv website you need the last 5 digits of the VIN and the license plate associated with it. there is a link in my signature or just google ya'll

its usually a good indicator but there can be issues. i don't really feel like typing it all out but i strongly urge you to get the VIN from the seller, the full VIN, and maybe the engine number. Ideally the seller sends you a picture of the portion of the title or a registration slip that shows what the dmv thinks the VIN instead of the seller sending you a pict or -horror- reading it off to you or something that can introduce human error.

anyway call the DMV number in sacramanto, read that number off to them and see what they say.

most people don't understand what non-op really is. they thing 10 years of not paying their fees = non-op and it's "out of the system" which is not true at all.

i say get a picture of a DMV piece of paper with the VIN on it because i had a non-op bike with the VIN and EIN swapped and lots of muddiness to sort through. had i not figured out the swap i probably would have lit that bike on fire and walked away. functionally speaking the number swap made no difference once it was sorted out.
