Dirty BARFing on the K1200R

A couple of weekends ago, I decided to go on a solo Pie Ride down to Gizdich Ranch, taking Uvas and Hecker Pass. Got there, had a nice slice of Olalla berry pie, and bought a nice peach pie to take home, no big deal.

Coming back up Hecker Pass, some cager had taken out two power poles, resulting in the road being closed. On asking a CHP about a good shortcut, he asked me if my bike could handle a little dirt. Having done some dirt/gravel before on my bike while doing a Hawthorne thang, and having not much fear of pretty much anything, I said yes. :teeth (Note to self: reasonable caution is not fear. :nerd)

He told me to go up to the Mt Madonna park and hang a right... And I did.

Pole Line Road to Summit Road to Mt Madonna/Summit Road to Loma Prieta Avenue to Highland Way to 17 and then home.

Sand, gravel, sandy gravel, hardpan, hardball (asphalt to you non-military types) with significant potholes... Didn't spill the beast or damage the pie. :x

Approximately 17 miles of great views to both sides, ocean, high desert, trees, all good. :party :teeth

Clearly, he has learned nothing from you. :laughing

And, you know, I try to lead by example, too :afm199

But it's a start! You know how it is when you get dirty at first. Before you know it he's gonna be on here posting photos from his most recent enduro and his 6-day ride across the western states on nothing but dirt. You just watch!

Hey, I had my Contour going... :x :twofinger

For you two whiner's information, when I was stationed at Schofield in Hawai'i, I'd ride my RD400F over Kolekole Pass, down to Waianae, then out to the far end of Ka'ena Point, nothing but sand and King Kamehamehaha's coral-block road, then along the North Shore. :x

Right on, Peter! Of course, this thread could REALLY use a few pics. Have you learned nothing from WoodsChick? :laughing

Ok, I'll keep quiet if you show us what you captured on your Contour!

I make no such promise. That said, I still wanna see the vid. Come on, Peter! Your adoring public awaits.

Uploading to YT just for my loco pals... :teeth

Three vids, first one is rolling north on Hecker, hitting the roadblock, turning around, and going onto Madonna (GPS listed it as Red Dog Ridge). Second is Madonna/Summit, and the third gets boring after 15 minutes (stopped to chat with some old guys, forgot to turn off the camera).

Three vids being uploaded to YT at the moment, first one is supposed to be @ http://youtu.be/k3DOHrWKNPw when complete. :thumbup :laughing :party

Having reviewed these again, they're pretty boring. No cursing, no close calls, no imminent collisions.

You don't take long rides, do ya?? :twofinger :laughing

Riiiiiight. :laughing

You got me. I just roll to *$ and back, pretty much.

I just try to edit down the typical 2793748238749830480932 hours of boring footage into something that is almost watchable (2-5 minutes). Try being the operative word. :thumbup
