OK - so can't cure the common cold, FINE!

I stumbled on this while heading to a work trip in Germany.

It should buy you 10-12 hours of no sore throat, no runny nose, no headache - just freedom from these symptoms.

Take (1) Sudafed 12 hour
Pump (4) shots of Afrin in your nose

You'll be set! I promise. Try it.

YMMV - NJOY!

Yeah, if I had to fly somewhere and give a presentation right after, I'd probably go your route. It's Western medicine's short-term F-U to a virus. However, I generally opt for "stay home, stay in bed and sleep, drink lots of clear fluids" if I have a few days to deal with a cold. I've done option A and it basically just masks my symptoms, so I ignore my cold until it gets really funky, and then I HAVE to stay home for five days instead of just a couple. :laughing

I usually go for Habanero Chili and some bhut jolokia sauce on the side. Usually can terrify anything foreign out of your body and tastes delicious, eat it on top of a mountain in the Thunder and the Rain.

I used that combination way back in the mid 80's to get through my senior year in college. :laughing

Avoid long-term use of nasal sprays, it will break down your sinuses, fortunately, your sinuses can repair themselves over time.

I always keep sudafed around, it's very effective. In the early 80's when I was doing a lot of diving I kept a big bottle of sudafed in my dive bag, it helped to avoid sinus squeeze which can be a bitch!

Steam is an effective way to help cure aspects of a cold, either a steam room or a personal steamer.

Ginger is also good, either asian ginger tea, Trader Joes Ginger Chews or caramelized ginger which you can get at Sprouts.

If you just treat the symptoms

I have found that when I start with the cold symptoms, I ride to get cold fresh air in my face and kick start my internal furnace with shivering.
This outdoor cold stress on my body tends to "burn out" my impending cold and just disappears.

Sure y'are. Even if you are not into spicy foods, capsaicin is a long standing old school natural remedy for the cold from many cultures. Even if Ghost Peppers are a bit much for you, doing the equivalent spice level for you can do wonders, even if it is just some grilled jalapenos and eggs or something. Just get enough to where you can feel your pores open up and your scalp starts to sweat, it will do wonders for you and has many health benefits.

get it while it's easy
lol - back when we were kids, my SO's personal theory was tequila (he figured it could kill anything). we both got sick at the same time, and sat down and drank an entire bottle between the two of us in about an hour. worked like a charm. next morning i was so hung over, i hardly noticed the cold symptoms.
