Desperately Seeking Flooring

So, a little over a year ago we replaced all of the flooring downstairs (except kitchen) with a beautiful dark walnut laminate

We then decided we loved the product so much we would do the bedrooms with the same product, and started with the master bedroom

Then projects were "on hold" due to cat rescue stuff

Last Sunday we bit the bullet and said "let's go order the flooring for the office and the peach bedroom, we gotta get this finished"

The Floor Store called us Monday and told us the product is discontinued :(

I'm heart broken :( I know. It's only flooring. But I am devastated. I put so much effort into cat rescue, always putting my needs and wants aside, and now I am left high and dry

The product is Republic Flooring RESRPDW also known as Eternity Floors SRCDW12

I need about 500 sqft for the remaining bedrooms. I wanted to do the landing also which is about 100 sqft. If I can't get enough for the landing I will put carpet on this, but I REALLY want to do the bedrooms with this product

We have called everywhere we found on google when searching for either product. I can only find seven boxes in Oakland. We have also called the manufacturer in China begging them to make some for us. I'll even take a pallet (about 900 sqft which is way more than I need)

Does ANYONE have any leads as to where I might find enough to finish my projects?

Laminate is Laminate, it isn't something particularly special. If you shop around, you should be able to find a very similar product if the one you like is discontinued, just talk to some bigger dealers like Golden State Flooring. A good sized distributor who carried your old product should be able to direct you to a comparable new one that should match well enough.

What he said...often manufacturers replace a specific product with the same thing under another name for various reasons. What once was "American Grey Stuff" will be the same darned thing but listed "Michigan Moose Poop.

my understanding is that the flooring industry is now full of lots of fly by night stuff made in china. if you're lucky it's good, but since most people don't buy it more than once they presumably just use up some material, then move on to the next one and call it something different so they don't have to spend any effort matching it.

it's definitely not all the same quality--i learned this from a friend trying to track down the source of the splintery crap which his house came with.

Although technically speaking "laminate is laminate" visually speaking they are not always interchangeable

The one I purchased shows no "wood" grain, it doesn't have any stupid hand scraped distressed nonsense going on. It is a high gloss piano finish laminate. I can't find ANYTHING like it. Anywhere :(

And I get it, they bring stuff back to life under another name. But still I can't find it anywhere

OK, Wendy - I did a little digging for you. It looks like both companies you list are merely distributors for a product that's German, called Kronotex. Your flooring is 12.3 mm and when you go directly to the Kronotex website, they have a bunch of product lines listed. It would be helpful if you knew what the product is specifically, that each distributor has assigned their own personal number to. Alternatively, you can contact Kronotex directly as ask who is representing their product in N. CA. If they ask, you're an interior designer. Just say that, and make your life easier. Once you find a rep or a shop that carries the product, assuming that Kronotex doesn't sell direct and/or have stock, then I might be able to help you out. I have a re-sale license for Cali and can buy the stuff and re-sell to you. I only ask that you pay a handling charge for the administrative stuff that will be required on my end to make the order. My guess is that your product is discontinued but there might be additional stock not represented by the companies you're currently dealing with. Home Depot carries, it among others. As Eldirty says, it's laminate. It's just a printed product on a textured substrate and there should be something comparable around. Golden State can be pricey but they have a decent selection. I'd call first to see if they even carry this. Tulip and other flooring companies might be another alternative to track down something similar. Are you sure you don't just want to go to an engineered floor. It's a big step up from laminate, and you get real wood. You're dealing with such a small area that it might not break the bank.

Hi Heather

I know it is Kronotex, trust me I have done my research lol, and I know it is 12.3mm however I am not finding any product that looks similar on the website.

I just called the number on the swisskronousa but they are closed, I'll try again tomorrow.

No,I don't want an engineered wood floor. I chose this product after spending countless wasted hours looking at flooring (regardless of what it was made from) and I didn't like anything. Until I saw this product and said "that's it!!!!"

Thanks for the assist!! I'll call again tomorrow and let you know, but it has been discontinued a while so I highly doubt we will find it :(

Laminate

I don't want an engineered floor. I don't want anything that is distressed either.

I want the laminate, in Dark Walnut, that is a gloss finish that I have put in downstairs and in my master bedroom

If you pay for my ticket, I am willing to travel to Kronotex's head quarters in Germany and find your laminate for you! :teeth

If it's been out of production for a while, then your best bet is to match, not find new stock. It's not wasted time if you found a product you liked. Generally there's something out there like it--sometimes it's better, sometimes not. This happens ALL THE TIME. Even with current stuff. They can't get the formula so the color is different, laws changed, the company went under...you name it.
