RAMPAAAAAAGE!
I am always fine with his videos until he starts talking. Within 30 seconds I get annoyed at the inflection and tone of his voice. Why can't he just talk like a normal person instead of using that fake voice?

So can someone tell me what the end result was? :laughing

Yeah, he kinda got to me too, at first. I started watching more because he really explores his subject matter. And he kinda sounds like Rod Serling.

Discussions around dark siding seem to always become wars a la politics, religion, oil, and chain cleaning.

Those who are gonna dark-side are gonna dark-side. Those who aren’t, won’t.

Personally I won’t but I also believe if someone feels comfortable doing it and their experience tells them it works, no argument will convince them otherwise.

I thought it was a well done video. I'm currently just trying more affordable motorcycle tires (Shinko).

I'm approaching 130k miles ridden on car tires on VTX1800s and it's not something you could convince me is "bad" in any way. "Different" sure, but not "bad" at all.

Anyone who wants to experience it is welcome to take my VTX around a parking lot.

It definitely gives you a lotta stop...

To me, leaning is riding, and you aren't going to safely and securely lean through a turn with car tires.

To each their own. Also, it's been my experience that cheap car tires are far more often compromised with grip on wet pavement than cheap motorcycle tires, and I'm talking new tires, not old.

Near the end of the video he makes some great philosophic comments.

This thread is playing out just like he says it will.

Of course it is. People crazy enough to ride motorcycles in the first place shouldn't be surprised people aren't afraid to do strange things to their motorcycles.

Whats the idea behind it, just to save money?

I weigh 420lbs. In Texas, I was going through a Metzler ME880 rear in about 5k miles, a Dunlop D404 in about 6k. I was burning 4-5 tires a year, at a cost of $220 a tire plus install. God forbid one take a nail or screw, though I did start plugging them.

With the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred 205/60/16 back there I get about 35k miles out of a tire on average. I pull the final drive every 10k and lube the drive splines, but other than that, it requires no maintenance. Tread punctures plug easily and stay plugged, especially if I pull the tire and plug/patch them.

I still go through front tires- a little faster, even, because the car tire has SO MUCH traction it just polishes them clean at the freeway lean angles, but it brought my tire costs down enough for me to put 60k on my first VTX in 4 years, and 70k on this one in five. Since then my stable has grown and it doesn't get much love, but she's still my road sofa.

bigger contact patch does not mean more grip, and you're wearing the fronts more because the rear is wandering around causing you to push the front especially in corners

if you ride freeway then it's not so much of an issue, might be unnerving having it wander under you while it follows the rain grooves :thumbup

Zoinks!!!!
I think it’s use dependent.

Would I mount one for an AFM? Fuck no!
Would I feel comfortable slabbing to Florida on one? Probably
