Planning on riding to San Diego this 4th of July. Starting @ Castro Valley I have 4 days and want to spend 1 day with Family in SD. I'm thinking about taking 1 then hopping onto 101 in Santa Maria, 126, 14, 138 to 15. Fuel range is also something to consider, I only get about 120 miles on a full tank, I want to avoid 5 and going through LA . I was digging through past ride reports but want to ask for further route suggestions.

From the 101 I would add 166-33-150 then follow on 126 ect.
33 is a must road!

I'd tend to trust the state road conditions website more for this road, since SR2 is a state route.

if you cut in, off of 1, at Cayucos (old coast rd?) and then get yourself to 58, it's a fun alternative to 166 and less patrolled. Proceed to 33/166 and then cut it on Cerro Noroeste Rd/Hudson Ranch at Frazier Park to Lockwood Valley Rd and back on 33 to Ojai. Cerro Noroeste and Lockwood bypass the some of the boring parts of 33.
