Curious why some of you don’t give your name

On your info. Why are you hiding?

I’ve been on quite a few message boards and the pattern I see, is that the people who remain most anonymous and never disclose personal information are the phony people.

Discuss.

OP: that's really none of your business.

For me I'm comfortable having my name out there because I already have a fairly public online persona and have for many years. There's parts of my life that are very private, and some that are rather public.

But BARF is one of those precious places that, other than an email address, there's nothing you really need to anchor to a public profile. That's great because it allows people to be as private as they like here. Which is great because anyone anywhere can read anything posted here.

People have a right to privacy. Full stop. And their reasons for protecting that privacy need no explanation.

Because barf is accessible worldwide and personal information is often abused.

Nice edit.

I disagree. If you don’t provide you’re name, you’re probably a phony.

Just my point of view. I’m asking for an explanation from people who don’t want to share it, not demanding it. You are speaking for those individual people, Tyler?

I don’t think that this question applies to you, but thanks for speaking for the nameless people.

I don't do it on this forum but I've stayed anonymous on other forums. Showing signs of being a woman in majority male communities online can cause unwanted attention. Often easier to just not display a name.

I assure you, as much as I carefully guard my anonymity online, because I have always been an enemy of the surveillance state, I am much the same in person.

Old BARFers can verify this. You see, in olden times on BARF, the forum was based much more on socialization in person. There was BARF Bike meets at Bars and restaurants 4-5 times a week around the greater bay area, sometimes multiple events in different parts of the Bay on the same night.

Back then we used to get to know each other in person.
