CRF 150F to Street Legal?

Looking at buying a 2006 Honda CRF 150 and putting on a Baja Design kit I found on Revzilla.

Does anyone know if this will make the bike street legal in California?

Thanks!

probably not. Others know better than I, but they will look at the vin/engine number and see it wasn't sold as street legal in CA.

I have seen a couple CA plated ones for sale on CL, you should be able.to come.across one that made it through years ago. Probably wouldn't be a great road bike though. Some good options for short people out there. My wife is 5'2" and is riding a Drz400sm for her dual sport

Crf230l
Xt250
Wr250x
Drz400sm

I mainly want a dirt bike, but I will need to ride it approximately 10 miles to get to the trails. that’s my dilemma
I’m 5’7”, so not too short, but not very tall either. 31” inseam.
Probably the weight of the bike biggest factor? So I can pick it up by myself when/if I end up horizontal on the trail :laughing. The CRF 230L might do it.

230l is also not "really" plate-able.
But you may be able to find a plated one with luck and patience.

It is tricky to plate a bike that was not sold as a plated bike. The VIN is coded as "plated" or "nonplated" and California is very picky due to emissions requirements.

The crf230l was made in 2008 and 2009 and came CA street legal from the factory. Not to be confused with the crf230 or crf230f

Just search "plated" or "street legal" in the motorcycle section on CL.

Like others have mentioned there are bikes that are not street legal by today's standards but were plated previously through a loophole. Is it possible that dmv denies the plate when you register it in your name? Yes it is possible but I dont think it is likely. Hopefully someone can chime in on this part

I believe the crf230l was CA plated from the get go the 2 years it was made

The crf230f was not plated

Honda also made the crf230M supermoto here in CA plated

i was obsessed with plated my xr100 and i found out it has the magic 'VIN' that would allow me to do so. but i'd changed my mind when i realize why ride something on the street that has such a short maintenance interval....

A friend just suggested I get a black widow motorcycle carrier for the back of my car... that might solve my to-and-from the trail problem!

Agreed, best solution for dirt riding. :thumbup

You have the added benefit of flogging it mercilessly while in the dirt knowing you'll still have a way to get home. :ride

Agreed with everything that's been said....but there is a lot to be said for having a plated bike, not the least of which is the plate is as good as a green sticker. You can ride anywhere, anytime. Plating my DR350 was a pain in the ass but totally worth it.

Hitch carrier or a Kendon trailer FTW.

A proper dirtbike sucks as a streetbike - long periods of sustained WOT are not what those bikes are made for, the maintenance intervals are short, and quite frankly, after a day of riding in the dirt, I want to strip off my gear and relax on the way home.
