Crash on the track...does the tow cost $?

Out of curiosity - when/if one crashes on the track, is there a cost to tow the motorcycle off and to have the paramedic check you out? In the car world, it was always very pricey to have the tow truck come take you off the track.

No cost for bike removal, the provider will bring it to your track. If you need an ambulance there's usually a cost. If you don't take a ride I don't think there always is.

ive never received or heard of a charge for crashed bike pickup.

ive received bandages and minor attention for free from track ambulances. I even got a free x-ray at a MotoAmerica event.

I would just blame it on the burger you had for lunch... for me 1st session after lunch is always a slow onr and I just plan on getting refocused...

I’ve done a crapload of car trackdays over the last 15 years and never heard of anyone paying to have their car brought back to the pits.

To the pits? No charge.

I've gotten bandages, ice, and burn cream before with no charge.

Not sure on the paramedics/ambulance thing, but the one time I was checked (they even gave me a ride back to my pit) there was no charge - I didn't need them to leave the track though and they could have dumped me to go respond to something else - that was a race weekend though, not a regular track day. No idea if the contracts differ. If you leave the track - or they are tied up with you and cannot respond to another emergency, probably a different story (don't have great memory of the time I utilized them in that manner, but pretty sure I was billed for, like, everything lol).

Never heard of tow charges to get your bike off the track.
Towing back home that's a whole nuther game.

Medical...
Depends on the track itself.
The only one Whammy knows about is Thill.
Thill if you crash and need air evac to Enloe, its not free.
However, Enloe is a not for profit hospital and level one for the area.
If you need to be air evac'd out you'll get to the hospital.
Being how its a not for profit hospital they will not chase you for the bills.
So unless they changed their business model you can dodge a bullet there.
Key is to not have a moment of "running out of talent" and keep the rubber side down.

its a 45k helo flight from enloe

how will they not charge you for that is absurd,

im glad my kaiser paid it and I just had a copay/deductible for it

not really sure now why we push helo insurances at the track (I had reach at time of my crash at thill but its not up to you who picks you up), your medical coverage will pay for it hopefully, unless you got some weird obamacare???

It is what it is, and was based on a race team members accident a few years ago.
Team member was from "down under" and he was unconscious after rolling over a rather expensive race car qualifying for the 25 hour event.
Airlift to Enloe, and overnight stay.
The gent was paranoid he'd have to pay for the medical bills (no insurance while out of his country) once he came to in the hospital, and the doctor let him know the hospital would not come after him for the bills. (not for profit).
It took all i could to keep him in the hospital overnight as a precaution.
Had to remind him if he had a TBI, and it surfaced while back at the track there was no way to get him to a hospital quickly. 42 miles distance from the track to the hospital.

Actually, if people read the fine print, a lot of insurances do not cover helicopter rides. Kaiser does, but even then, the helo insurance will cover your deductible, which, my one use of it, paid for itself for 3 years just in that.

My current insurance covers almost nothing - shit corporate insurance, and thanks to obamacare, I have no options of getting it on my own anymore since I'm in the "generally healthy middle-age" group that's paying for obamacare.

With my current insurance, I'd have a minimum of $6K out of pocket if I need to go in for - well, anything, and I can promise helo would be all of that and probably then some. Hence, the insurance is more than worth it.

Worth reading the fine print in your insurance policies - not unheard of for helo to not or only partially be covered. Or just keep the helo insurance and don't worry about it.

argued with the medics for 45 minutes when I broke my collar bone, we have to take you to the ER, dude if I was going to code out I would have done it already, we Have to cut you out of your leathers, no you don't, but it'll hurt, it hurts already, Paramedics are way to eager to use those scissors on leather. No Charge though so all cool

The cost for a helo ride is based on your insurance. Your insurance fee schedule for that ride sounds like it was $45K, that's what they pay out for that service.
My helo ride was $36K because that is my insurance's fee schedule but I only had a $50 co-pay for that, and that's the same day I learned that I had helo insurance through my insurance.

Now back to the OP question...I wasn't charged for my bike retrieval back to the pits, but the medical company billed my insurance the ambulance ride from turn 11 at T-Hill to the skid pad where the helo was waiting....that was another $50 co-pay. But I was given medical treatment while on track for ~30 min while waiting for the helo (I guess).
And this was at a typical track day.

The organizers of the track day pay for the paramedics to be there, so we all.pay for the paramedics whether we use them.or not. Damned socialism. It works so well we don't even notice.

Let's keep the politics out of the moto discussion, ok?

AAA premier tows motorcycles up to 200 or 300? miles. I've used them a lot.

Make sure you read the fine print, several times, before depending on AAA's long-distance towing. In particular, keep in mind that they only cover 1 tow per "breakdown incident", only one 200-mile tow per year, and they're only obligated to tow you to the nearest repair facility.

Having used them for long tows several times, they have always been perfectly happy to tow me anywhere within that 200 miles, never had any issue about "nearest repair facility"
