Craigslist tip -doorstep

So that dealership in Vegas, always running dozens of ads, they have low advertised prices and crazy high fees ... just add a -doorstep in your craigslist search and no more of their ads! :)

And I doubt some other great craigslist bike happens to have "doorstep" in their ad.

The things you do on a Sat morning while drinking coffee. :)

I was wondering what their angle was. The bikes always seem reasonably priced and <$200 delivered, I just didn't notice and hadn't inquired about their fees. Too bad, I'm sure airfare to LV is pretty cheap now and would be a cool ride home after purchase.

"Owner" bike only.... that's the way I roll. Some people are willing to take major hits on their bikes even before this and I am always there to comfort them. Plus there is that thing with the dmv taxes

I'm new here. How is it better, tax-wise, to buy a bike from his owner directly ? Thanks

It's not legal, but when you buy used, typically you can write down a lower selling price on the sale documents so that you pay less taxes at the DMV.

Most people do this because taxing the purchase of used private-party vehicles is a blatant scam.

Except the DMV calculates taxes based on their formula not how much the vehicle sold for. Otherwise everyone would be selling a car for $1 and something like the carpets for $9999.

Sales tax rates are public knowledge, how would they be allowed to change the sales tax figure on a known number/value?

The DMV accepts the price you write down, but if it’s way under blue book valves they send a form to the seller to verify the purchase price. If you decide to write down less make sure the seller is willing to back that up. I don’t know what they do if the seller gives a different purchase price, I have no experience with that.

I've read the delivery charges are higher to the bay area than the "as low as" number on the bay area CL ad.

The CVC prohibits high undisclosed fees in vehicle ads, but has a loophole many dealers exploit that CL ads aren't considered ads under that law.

Not true, they tax on the amount written on the pink slip. there is no "formula". you might be confusing it with registration.

You are also allowed to gift one bike for free annually including friends.

This has not been my experience. Even with a brand new vehicle I bought out of state.

Lots of answers here, some good, some not so. Certain things folks will not say on line.

DMV has a form called “statement of fact” that kinda overrides other things.
Or they uses to. Things are always changing.

There are no gay ran tees.

That’s pretty funny, thanks Steve Jobs. A gay shirt?
