Craigslist potential buyer requesting vin check cert - spam or legit?

Selling my GSXR on craigslist (and here, on BARF) and some potential buyer seems a bit sketchy. Asked if I had a VIN report, I gave # to him and said feel free to call DMV, I can also provide a pic of the title to show it has no lien.

He asked for one of those carfax - type reports, from webglobalvin.com, site doesn't seem great. Anyone had craigslist spam maybe working for these guys trying to bump up sales? or is this more common than I think?

PS - craigslist starts charging $5 per moto for sale post starting today.

Ask him for his Social Security # , tell him it's for his protection. That'll make him squeak.

It's a scam. You give them your CC info and then they amazon a buncha shit to a fake or unoccupied address and swoop in on it.

CL started doing this a long time ago for job opportunities and service providers - it actually helps in the long run, weeding out all the junk.

And what's $5 considering all you get from CL?

Not a bad response! :thumbup I've always told them to come get it off the bike themselves.

What provider do you use to get the VIN report for a bike? (want to avoid the sketch scammer bad guy types :)

What kind of mischief can someone do with a vin number?
Since they are easy to see on most cars, motorcycles, boats, trailers.... Wouldn't bad people just harvest them on a grand scale then do bad things?

the bad people harvest credit cards from sketchy sites claiming to sell you a vin report for your vehicle.

So I'm asking is there a safe way to get a vehicle report for the bike? or are they all just scam sites.
