Hold the date. Plan on a fire recovery work wknd at Cow Mtn the wknd of June 1st and 2nd. Camping at the Red Mtn Campground for those wanting to stay over for both days. :thumbup

No official press release yet, but this is confirmed and an official GO. Please consider making the commitment to come up for a day or both if available. Any and all help is needed to get Cow Mtn open! Our efforts WILL make a difference in getting it opened sooner.

Volunteers are needed to come help repair fire-damaged recreation facilities and trails in the South Cow Mountain OHV Management Area on Saturday and Sunday, June 1-2, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. each day. The OHV area has been closed since July 2018, being heavily damaged by the Mendocino Complex fires.

Helping hands are needed to install trail markers, signage, culverts and erosion control features; construct barriers; repair and maintain trails and complete trail surveys. The work will require hiking, digging, hauling and moving rocks and heavy material. The BLM will provide all necessary tools and materials.

Volunteers should check-in at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 1st and 2nd, at the Westside Staging Area on South Cow Mountain. It is recommend that participants wear long-sleeved shirts, pants, sturdy footwear and bring sunscreen and gloves. Volunteers should also bring a lunch and plenty of water. All volunteers are welcome, whether they can help both days, just one day or only part of the day.

Tent camping will be available for volunteers at the Red Mountain Campground. Please bring a tent, camping equipment and enough food for both days, if volunteers plan to stay overnight.

Exact details are tbd and official press release yet to be approved.

I am tentatively in for this, provided nothing pops up on my calendar that would require travel/I don’t get trapped in another city by a storm again.

Bump!!!! This weekend is it!! Fun times to be had and your chance to see the place before it opens next week. There is still work to be done so we are hoping for a great turn out and the camping will be super fun for sure. I'll be heading up Sat morning intending to camp and work/ride both days. Hope to see folks up there!

Just a quick note and reminder for anyone planning on attending this weekend. Volunteers must be at the Westside staging area no later than 8am.

Bring loppers. While a small handsaw can be useful, loppers get a whole lot more work done. :party

Great turn out both Saturday and Sunday for the Cow Mtn work party! They are officially opening today!! We had a solid barf turnout with CJ, me, Rebekah, Tom, Chris, Steven and Rob. We focused primarily on Trail 24, brushing it some and installing new signs. Hopefully someone will post pics because as per usual I didn't take any.

The primary credit for getting Cow Mtn open again goes to the Ukiah BLM office, especially Ashley Poggio, and the Friends of Cow Mtn (Northbay MC Club). Lots of groups really chipped in to help like the Mendocino 4x4 Club, Local Lake County resident fourwheelers, 707 Riders, some of us Barfer's, and others.

All of the OHV users are VERY grateful to get back on the Mtn and see it open again!

Good on you CJ and the other BARFers plus all the other groups who showed up. Sounds like it paid off.
