Cost of crashing

There is a thread on the ZX-10R. net site that is stating the cost of a crash in Texas, that the 20 minute Helicopter ride was $38,358. He also had hip surgery.

The bill after Blue cross. Blue Shield insurance.. was staggering.

Rider said he hit a slick spot in a corner.

Please (for your sake) learn how to ride your bike. Doc Wong free clinics, would be a must, as well as MSF class.

Good point I suppose, but all the education in the world won't make us impervious to any and all harm. Sometimes it's the other guys fault, that's just the way it is.
Motorcycles can be dangerous. Better riders than you and me prove that ugly little point all the time.

Is the decision to use a helicopter ambulance vs. a regular ambulance based solely on where the crash happened? Or are there other factors in the mix?

I learned how not to crash back about age 10, when my mom said if I wrecked my MiniTrail 70 I wasn't getting another one.

Travel time and injuries sustained are likely factors.

If you're an hour or 2 from a hospital, that likely means an ambulance is a ways away.

There wasn't an "other guy"... He said, "slick spot"...

This most likely doesn't gel with riders that don't know how to ride.
But blaming someone or something else for your sorry ass mistakes and failures...
Just guarantee's that they just keep happening.

Know what your insurance covers. For example here's what Medicare says about emergency transportation:

https://www.medicare.gov/Pubs/pdf/11021.pdf

I have doubts that more riding skill means less crashing. My suspicion is that most riders choose their level of risk, and skill is used to have more fun rather than less risk.

If you ride slow enough, you can certainly avoid all sand and oil.

Slow isn't the answer.. Looking and assessing the surface correctly, and knowing how to handle your bike to pick a safe space line, and use your brakes and gas, .... Can be called Paying attention.

There is a lot to it, Professional instruction (like what Doc Wong offers) is critical.

When self teaching, or "God knows Who" does it... It ain't cutting it.

Did he blame the slick spot or just say he hit it?

Easy sparky. I wasn't disagreeing with you.
I just meant shit happens. I don't care how good you are or think you are, you can still get pretty fucked up riding motorcycles.
(oh wait....disregard. I forgot who I was talking to)

Your suggestion is "learn to ride better" and not "Make sure to have sufficient medical insurance coverage?"

You're poking a stick at the dog chained up in the yard. It's going to make him angry and he'll make a lot of noise.

:laughing You were talkin to the guy that has been safely riding for more years than You have been alive... :laughing

Shit doesn't happen to me. And there is a reason it doesn't.

yeah yeah, Lou, I get it. Thing is, you don't. Shit happens.

You come around a blind right hand turn, semi pulling a load is completely in your lane, it's ass end in the other. What magical braking/gas move do you have?

Fly off the cliff?

Actually, nevermind.

I already know where this conversation is going, see nowhere, and I'm bored. Others can have at this weekly circle jerk.
