Cop saved me today. Installed my Valentine V1 on my 1199. Working great, but let's see if it can see the Ka band through my body. Where are there cops? Alice? Too far. Let's try the 25mph limit Redwood rd, heard there's always cops out there. Found two.
One was at the entrance of Redwood Rd, another after Redwood with Pinehurst, closer to Oakland. On the way back, there was a third one with the radar off, Castro Valley Sherriff but with a young cop at the wheel (aren't Sheriffs 50 something guys making 400K/year?) . I split right into him, side by side at the traffic light. I leave with a *little* more throttle than usual, braaaaap, accelerate quickly but stop at 39mph (limit posted right on my face was 35). Eyes glued on the V1 and mirrors. Cop was glued to my tail, he also went quick. Next stop light, I split into a couple of cars ahead. Cop still behind me, probably typing my licence on his laptop. I leave with even more noise, I can feel the drivers in cages salivating, "that idiot didn't see the cop behind me, go get the fucker!", I'm sweating, eyes on my radar radar sees nothing. What's wrong with this cop? All this last 2 seconds, I have to slow down quick at 10 over limit, damn those Ducs are fast.
Uninterested cop turns right behind me into some sort of food court, and in my stupid mind games, I lost my exit. I then have to make a u-turn, but I'm alone and the traffic light won't turn green for me. It's hot out there. It's been 2 cycles, nothing, I have the right to go, just waiting for traffic to clear. Where's that cop again? Did he see me waiting for two damn cycles? It's gonna be my word against his in traffic court, fuck it. At this moment Cop leaves the court behind a pickup truck ahead of me on my right, and sees me trying to move the bike around to see if I can trigger something.
He turns on his siren quickly, sounded like woot, woot, with his hand outside the window signaling for me to go ahead on the red light. Traffic is clear, I just go with a scraping peg like u-turn for show in part to retribute the favor - nothing looks better than a Ducati at big lean, so here's that. It was 95F outside, this cop guy, he understands. He saved me! I was cooking in full gear, with my Panigale exhaust already melting my seat. THANK YOU!!
I leave and wave at him. This cop must have been a rider! Wish I could buy him a beer. Cheers unknown nice Castro Valley cop! :thumbup
