Is that the same B-17 that was in Moffett a few months ago? That sucks. Fatalities aside, there can't be too many of those planes that are still airworthy.

Might be the same plane. Took a pic of it flying over my work in 2016.

Edit:

Definitely the same plane from the red wingtips.

B17s are great aircraft.

I think there are only about 15 of them still flying/air worthy in the world. One less now!

Really sux! I read there were several passengers up in a "joy ride," presumably to experience flying history in a great aircraft.

RIP for all those lost!

Flew out of moffet on the nine-0-nine in 2003 with a friend and it was spiritual. Walked through it many times since then. I’m heartbroken.

Sedimental Journey was flying around Carson City for a week in Sept before the air races. I was about 5 miles from the airstrip, got to see it a lot, loafing along low altitude.

Terrible. Sad for the families.

I had an opportunity to ride on Fifi, one of, I think two flying B-29's, however the ticket was too steep for me, too. I think it was four, five hundred, too.

Fifi got more modern engines when it was restored some years ago. Wonder what this one had.

Hard to keep a 75 year old, four engine airplane going.

Terrible; have seen that plane fly overhead during the Sonoma County "Wings over Wine Country" event they hold every year.

Condolences to family and friends of the victims.

And it could even run at all? I'm totally ignorant about aviation fuel. This would be a gutting mistake if true.

It wouldn't run well or for very long.

Jet-A is in the kerosene family. A diesel engine will happily run on it. Av-gas or LL100 is high octane, leaded fuel meant for spark ignition piston engines. This is very commonly used for recreational aircraft and available at most small airports.

If it's true that they mixed fuel, this is a really, really bad fuck up. Jet-A and LL100 are not at all interchangeable.
