Co-worker lost all in Paradise Camp fire

I don’t know if this is allowed here or not but I’m posting this anyway.

My co-worker lived in Paradise CA. He lost literally EVERYTHING he owns. He was in his company truck when he was told he had to leave. Not allowed to go back home for anything. The only clothes he owns anymore are the single company issued uniform he was wearing.

He’s an older guy. Just trying to get through life like all of us. I set up a go fund me page for him. I’ve never done that before so it’s probably amateurish and poorly done. But I’m trying to help any way I can. I know most of us don’t have a whole lot extra in life but right now even the poorest of us have a lot more then the tens of thousands who lost all they had.

If you feel like donating anything at all it would be so greatly appreciated. Appreciated more then any of us could even understand I’m sure.

This fire was alot more gruesome then the fire that devasted my town of santa rosa last year.

The news reports are pretty sad, they cannot even identify the people from their bone fragments.

Prayers for all those still fighting and those that have lost and those that will have to rebuild.

He’s bouncing around between friends at the moment. The company has been great so far. He’s allowed to use his company truck as needed. (Normally strictly not allowed)

This is really great of you. My coworker, who just retired, moved to Paradise 1 year ago. He lost everything as well.

what a tragedy. My old neighbors sold everything to buy a place up there about 10 years ago. last year they convinced one of their sons to move in to town as well. Their house survived apparently (they haven't been able to confirm) but their son's house is gone.

They are all in shock, holed up in Red Bluff.

Best of luck to your friend, OP

The new norm for Californians. Everybody knows someone that lost everything in a fire. So sad.
A good friend lost her house in the Cobb fire.
Lots of friends, clients and acquaintances lost homes here in Santa Rosa.
A riding buddy has 3 siblings that all lost their homes in Paradise.
Good luck to your friend and kudos to you for trying to help.

Used to be the only threat to California was earthquakes. Now its seems a fire disaster is just a matter of time.

Well, it's true that stories are legion in the new normal. A person can either donate to the entire effort or be like antwon and try and fix one person's life. Both good and necessary and better than just thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for posting that. Two of my sisters lost their homes and everything else except vehicles and pets.

It's kinda weird to look around at what wasn't destroyed.

Does home insurance not cover fires?

i think theyre covering what happened but my dads insurance dropped him because of all the fires. hes in penn valley. he had a hell of a time trying to find fire ins through someone else. AAA wanted 6500 a year for home insurance.

If they claim it's an act of God or some such there are exclusions. A couple of carriers are bankrupt, others tend to hold out payments until the home owner can prove what was lost. Also, in CA insurance is sometimes so expensive that it isn't an option.

I know people that kept a cash nest egg in a safe along with documentation of everything that is gone. In some cases "contractors" were allowed in before residents and places were looted.

Yeah it seems there are three types insurance companies in these high risk areas...

Companies that flat out refuse to insure.

Companies that will insure for stupid high rates.

Companies that charge normal rates because they haven't gotten around to dropping you yet.
