Clutch went out?

OK, here's my symptoms:

On the way in, clutch is now either all the way disengaged, or all the way engaged, and in the middle is very choppy. Clutch cable is about 1000 miles old... could it be my clutch? What else?

Should be a fun 56 miles on the way home tonight :laughing

how old is the clutch. The symptoms do describe a clutch starting to go. Take it out on the freeway and pin it in fifth and see if it spins up.

The clutch is the original from ~2000 with 20k+ miles on it. It seemed to do fine once it was in gear on city streets. When I get into high RPM's, if it's going, would you expect it to start slipping? I was (shhhhhh) hoping to ride it home so that I could get it to Evolution Suspension.

keep the revs down you should be fine, they go out gradually. A test for slipping is to twist it wide open at hiway speed in a higher gear. It will usually tend to slip in higher gears at higher rpm at hiway speed, the wind resistance contributes to making it slip.

So I made it home. Actually, went straight to Evolution. I didn't use the clutch much until I was all the way in the South Bay, and it seemed fine... hrrmmm...

So we popped open the clutch. It looks healthy. All plates are good, no indicators of a problem...

Maybe it was just dry or overheated? I'll try it out again either tomorrow (if i feel brave/dumb) or this weekend, but on the ride home from Evolution, it seemed fine.

And thanks for the help, Ernie & Shawn :thumbup (and of course Rob @ Evolution)
