ALAMO, Calif. —
A California Highway Patrol officer was shot and a suspect wounded during an exchange of gunfire on a major East Bay freeway Tuesday during the morning rush hour, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol confirmed that one of its officers and a suspect had been wounded around 8:30 a.m. in Highway 680 near Alamo.
The busy freeway has been shut down and the southbound lanes of Highway 680 were being forced to exit at Livorna Road.
The victims reportedly have been taken to John Muir Hospital by ambulance with a police escort.
No other details were immediately available.
