CHP Gets new chargers?

CHP might pick up a few dozen as "pursuit" cars- deployed on the Grapevine, Hwy 5, Mojave and of course the LA to Vegas run. They did similarly with the Mustangs, that only us old farts will remember (they also had some Volvos, but that's a whole other story!).

The Charger does not meet the CHP specifications for a patrol vehicle.

ALLEGEDLY they are only buying Explorer for commanders cars now and buying chargers for everyone else. I've heard mixed that it's the hemi or V6, I'll believe it when I see it

Probably along the same lines as these:

As for the Explorers, I'm not really a fan. I like being able to have my legs stretched out in front of me. The Crown Victoria was comfortable. The Explorers, the foot well is super narrow and shallow.

The V6s are completely gutless above 45mph. Good luck with that!

they do not need to be all that fast.
there all those spy cams on the roads.

and are the cars not equipped with "motorola"?

and police officers are exempt from the law about being able to use a cell phone while driving.

they still us the flyboys do they not?

lots of ways to keep up even if "your" car can not.

hell might even be able to tune in a local "news" station for up-dates (including live video) on a runner??

Riddle me this.
This confuses me since I've seen pictures of a bunch of new 2016 Explorers with CHP branding.

Until I see them on the streets, I will hold my enthusiasm for whichever vehicle comes next.

Which motor?

V6. Confirmed. Sounds like the prior bid the Charger couldn't meet the weight carrying requirements, so Dodge must have gone back and fixed that. Still don't know how they met the "four officers with all their crap" spec...and you know there won't be room for even one flare in the trunk- it will be just stuffed with radio gear.

I regret fucking up the opportunity to be a cop less and less as I see what passes for a patrol car these days. Be thankful you didn't get the Chevys I guess...
