Didn't see a thread on it. But the shutdown of i-80 today is up there was Bay Bridge collapse for crippling the entire area this morning.
Didn't know about it while getting ready for work but I kept hearing all these cars going by my house, and using a terrible commute option to do so. Somebody had to let me in just to get off of my side street in front of my house, but thankfully I was going the opposite direction (counter-commute to WC).
Hit the Dam Rd and there were a mess of firetrucks gathered. Traffic backed up westbound Dam Rd bad. Then as I got close to Dam, traffic backed all the way up, so I took the "no-longer secret" Alhambra Valley route to Happy Valley. Stop and go through the contry-side. That was exciting because parts of Happy Valley are one lane and damned if there wasn't one of those huge dump trucks coming from opposite directions right at the stop sign by the slid-out roud. By the time I got to work, 24 was so backed up that it has stopped 680 apparently as far as Benicia so everyone else in my Walnut Creek office was late to work (they all live on valley side of things).
This was really, really bad. I rolled the cage for important reasons this a.m. but even with bike it was a clusterfork. Only upside is that I might have a free chicken in my backyard when I get home (yes, I live that close to accident).
