Moab on my mind
Interested! I get up to Bend on occasion for pistol matches and every time I'm there I say to myself, "Self, you should bring a dirt bike next time you are here."

Do it! Coincidentally, I am in Santa Cruz riding the street bike at the moment. And Oregon dirt trails are off line until spring. After that, game on and feel free to look me up.

I rode off Barr Road and around Cline Butte on Sunday. A little chilly at the start but good riding! Some friends rode Huckleberry Flats in Oakridge yesterday and said it was great and a balmy 54 degrees. The trails I ride from my house are under snow for at least another 2 months. But, you are correct, there are year round riding opportunities here in between storms and if you have decent cold weather gear.

2SYS's self: Take the dirty bike next time he hits bend.

OP, I know a guy up in Bend via ADVRider. He posts some excellent ride reports of the area. I'll see what I can dig up. He's a damn cool dude.

Cool. I recently got in with a good, diverse group of riders here. That should expand my opportunities and knowledge of the area. It only took drinking a case of Rainier pounders at Spoken Moto to get in with the crowd. Also picked up a jacket and better gloves! That last ride was cold.

Just up the road from Cline Buttes.

The old bridge is now just for pedestrians, and in summer there is a company that does bungee jumps from it. That last picture looks like Chelseas Challenge at EFR, but not quite. Pretty much unlimited riding with a plated dirtbike east of the cascades.

...and yes, cold, snow starting now at 35 degrees at my place on the Deschutes between Redmond and Terrebonne.

And cold.

Nice pictures! Maybe one of these days we will get to go on a ride.

Been looking at plated dirt bikes lately as my 250 XC-F isn't. Torn on how to go about it and don't want to try and turn my bike into a street legal machine, nor do I want to sell it. At one point I was pretty set on a 690 Enduro R, but think it might be a little big for some of the riding I would like to do. A 350 EXC would be grand, but so similar to what I ride now it seems hard to justify having it in the garage. Decisions, decisions.

The last picture is in some BLM canyon.
You might recognize this lava tube...

After having 100 or so bikes since 79 I prefer the lightest. quietest . Plated bike
That can Cruze at least 75 mph..
I am done with Tanks. They hurt when they fall on you..

for something that sees much street use I'd be hard pressed to go 350 rather than 500. 17+ KTM says it's 4lb weight difference IIRC.

That is exactly why I ride a 250 XC-F, and why I have re-thought a 690 Enduro! If it wasn't for stator, lights, exhaust and the hassle of trying to convince DMV I would convert my 250 as it is plenty fast. Never even hit 6th gear on Barr Road heading to the trails and was hauling ass to keep up with the group.

I don't know how much street use a plated bike I buy would ever really see. Four pounds isn't much, but a longer stroke and more inertia definitely make the 500's feel heavier than a 350. The 640 Adventure that died on the last ride I did was a very, very big bike for the trails we were on. One tip over in lava rock cracked the case and dumped all the oil. Obviously there is a big difference between a 640 and a 500, but I have never felt like my 250 didn't have enough power. I suppose a test ride someday will help me decide, but the tight, technical single track I have been riding definitely doesn't require a 500, nor do the dirt roads. If I were spending time on the highways, maybe. But I don't see much highway time for me with a plated dirt bike. There are so many dirt roads and trails around here it isn't necessary.

You won't get a plate for the 250 in Oregon, no matter what you add to it.
