Celebrity Encounters

doesn't like crashing
So this happened, which resulted in this, and while I switched my SIM card back to my old phone, I just couldn't deal with the slow clunkyness of the old tech (WPP, I know...).

So, off to visit the cell phone store during lunch to snag a new Galaxy S5. The salesguy (Sean) and I get to chatting about bikes since I was carrying my helmet with me (he rides as well), and then he notices the AFM sticker on the back (he races as well), and then we get to talking about the upcoming Sonoma round and the previous race weekend down at Buttonwillow... and it turns out we were actually gridded up in the same Saturday race at BW, Clubman LW / 300Prod. Such coincidences! Anyways, I get my new phone, say I'll keep an eye out for him at Sonoma, and head back to work.

Then I get curious if Sean might be a BARFer, so I do a quick check of the BW results, find Sean in the 300 Prod Novice race, AFM #676, hmm... holy shit I just bought my phone from motherfuckin' JIGGLES?!? LOL, I just encountered a BARF celebrity and didn't even know it. Good meeting you, dude, hope to see you around. :thumbup

Mick Doohan. Car wash in Mt. View, back when he was working with Nicky Hayden at Honda. He was in town to see Dr. Ting about the rod still in his leg. Was having his electric blue Bentley washed and just sitting there on a bench, nobody had any fucking idea who he was. Took me a couple seconds to decide to bother him with a little hero worship. He was super cool to me and my young son.

I'm pretty sure I saw Jiggles at Sears on Sunday (His leathers say jiggles). Rides a 250, right?

Wow, that is seriously a cool story bro. :thumbup

Colin Edwards once told me he enjoyed having the racing fans mob him in Europe, but when he comes home to Texas, he's just a regular joe...nobody knows who he is because motorcycle road racing is such a niche sport here.

Talked to Doug Polen when I worked for Dan Kyle. He'd just tossed a borrowed Aprilia and was on crutches. Nice guy. And he had a number 7 factory Ducati (Xaus?) in his truck.

Jay Leno asked me what I was riding at the Concours at Pebble Beach after I walked into a car with my helmet in the show.

Its Dethklok!
WSBK at laguna. Geez a decade ago? I invited the wife to come and we went to Applebee's and got seated next to Collin Edwards. I'm like bubbling with excitement and the wife is telling me no and I lean across the aisle and totally puppy slobber all over him. He was pretty cool about it. His wife looked mad like mine did. I was nice and didn't do pics but it was cool to ask him at least 4 questions then try not to make eye contact. Just a wide stance lol.

My bikes have pedals now
Ran into Cal Crutchlow at a coffee shop in Carlsbad. I kept it short as I'm sure he enjoys a vacation from fame in the states.

Kevin Schwantz was at a CLASS day last year at Laguna and he came up to me between sessions when I was alone to check out my RSV4. Super nice guy. Got a nice pic of him stalking me on the entry into 5 as well.

He answered some questions in the classroom between sessions as well, and he always gave dead straight answers about how he does things, rather than the typical 'it depends' answer you get from a lot of instructors. Was really refreshing.

I've run into Malcolm Smith a couple of time in Baja. He was very gracious and signed a Baja map for me, only autograph I've ever asked for.

I totally hung out with David Hough in Quincy at a Beemer rally in 2005. Once he realised he could totally talk my ass off it just didn't stop there lol! It was at the Fairgrounds with lotsa drinking and eating. I was so baked i just listened and occasionally piped in then eventually mosied back my little hotel room down the road. To this day i still have no idea wtf we talked about, but it wasn't all safety related:)

Ask me about my B-1-D
Colin Edwards came down to the frog pond to hang out and do questions and answers with the corner workers - - - this was second to last motogp two years ago
Totally fun person to chat with.

I smashed my Xterrible on April Fools day. The guy driving the Prius, who wound up as collateral damage, is an Academy Award winner. I was advised of this by the claims handler :laughing

But man! That doesn't even come close to buying a phone from Jiggles!

Was flying from Dublin to Douglas 3 years ago for IOM and noticed a short distinguished Italian guy with a posse that looked familiar. I approached him after landing and asked is he was indeed Agostini. He grinned image.jpgand nodded yes. Agreed to picture . Awesome moment for me and my son in law.
