Cd reading problems!!!!!

Heres my problem.....

I have a cd that I burned a bunch of miscellaneous photos and files on about 2 years ago.
I am able to view/cut/copy and do anything with all of the folders but one. And ofcourse its the one I really want!!
I will sometimes be able to copy one file from that folder then the computer says "not responding" or something similar.
I have tried this in multiple computers with the same result so its not the cd reader. Its just that one folder on the cd, it'll recognize the folders name and the name of the files in the folder but it wont view them when clicked on. Once in a while one or two will pop up then nada. I have tried everyway imaginable to me on copying the files. I've even gone into dos and tried copying them one by one. It'll work for like 1 or 2 then thats it. WTF??

Anyone know of any programs, or cleaners, or anything I can use to remedy my problem. I have about a hundred photos I really want/need for nostalgic reason.

oh, I have tried to make a copy of the cd, but when it gets to that folder it wont read it.

the CD's directory/volume information is on a completely different track than the data. So if the disk is screwed up, it won't show up there.

I'd hit the surface of the disk with just a small bit of Plexus and a soft clean cloth - then buff it in a pattern that goes down the radius of the disk, not around it. then try reading it again, or try reading in another drive.

You're probably screwed, but I would keep trying some different drives and see if I can find one that would work. Even if it's not scratched, burnt CD's only have a small useful life before the media starts to deteriorate, which is sped up by things like heat, rough handling, and the like. Sometimes if it's not too far gone, you might be able to find that some drives can read the disk and other's wont.

Although it's probably a moot point now, this might be an interesting read for future reference:

May be a shot in the dark but...

Since you can at least see the folders and files in the GUI...

Try navigating to the troubled folder with the command prompt, and do an XCOPY *.* to (wherever). Hopefully this will allow you to just grab a copy without the pesky WinDoze GUI being a liability to the process.

BTW, what kind of CD readers have you been using?

I swear by Plextor drives because of their reputation for reading troubled media.

try putting a "CD" label on it, the kind you get with those stomper kits. CD's are made with a plastic base which has a layer of foil stuck to it and is then clear coated with lacquer to protect the top surface of the foil. 1: One problem with CD's (which is why they are not considered a 'backup' medium) is that the metals in the foil oxidize over time which will slowly but surely render them useless. 2: Scratches on the bottom of the cd can be buffed out with those kits you see in all the gaming, music, and walmart/kmart stores (but not really in computer shops, amazing!), which is worth a shot as well. 3: The other main problem is if you scratch the lacquered surface on top. Since this is really all there is that is protecting the foil layer you can potentially damage it when you scratch through the laquer but a label over it might help. Just make sure you use one of the stomper kits with an application tool to make sure the label is centered if you do try this.

Try burning a copy of said CD too

Good luck

If you get desperate, I have a Plextor drive in my system that may read it.

Send me the disk and if I can read the files, I'll send the files to you, but I get to keep a copy of any porn found. :teeth

I've got a Plextor too.

I'm almost willing to bet it can be read with a Plextor.
