CBR Kill Switch Developing Bad Contact

Howdy-Hey.

The 954 kill switch is developing a bad contact. With the bike running, if you touch the kill switch, especially on the already pressed-down 'on' side, it kills the bike. No bueno.

I couldn't find screws to open the unit, but it could be my bad eyes and the poor lighting in the garage.

Before resorting to King Kong mode, any easy and cheap way to get in there?

Thanks,

Marc

It's common for cheap switches that carry a lot of current to corrode from arcing. After you're in, a pencil eraser is good for cleaning (if that's all it needs).

Screws on back side of switch? Use a flashlight.

I'd take care of it properly by taking it apart. You don't want your bike cutting out on you just as you've accelerated into/threw a dicey situation.

The screws that hold the cluster together are pretty straight forward. The ones that hold the little wires in place are small and fidgety and you will likely need to disassemble it all the way to get to the contacts.. take pictures. Do it in a well lit area. Freeze in place when the screws escape so you can Listen for where they land. They are skilled at camouflage and resist interrogation

yeah, switch should be on clam-shell that clamps onto bar. Two or 3 screws on back side facing down. Have to crawl under bike with bright flashlight and look up.

Once you get the switch cluster open and access the contacts, scotch brite and contact cleaner can clean the carbon and pits on the contacts.

Thanks for checking in, Simon. Not yet. I’ve been busy with work and other stuff, and haven’t come up with a well-lit place. I rode a mile in the garage today. Definitely needs repair.

This should be in every repair manual for everything, always.
