Cash for Clunkers, I have a question.

Short version:
Can cars that were a part of that program be reregistered?

Longer version:
I’m interested in a car that may have been a part of that program. I don’t care about the condition of the motor. I want the chassis. In a perfect world I would be able to register it for street use. I’d still consider it as a track only car, but that changes things a bit.

Side question:
Anyone have a friend in Tucson that would be willing to take a look at the car?

Assuming you're talking about the program from ~10 years ago?

All those cars were supposed to be destroyed/scrapped, and the engine destroyed prior to going to any dismantler.

That said, the BODY is what carrys the VIN that would have been associated with a cash for clunkers vehicle. I saw quite a few of the c4c hulks at the local pick n pulls back then and there would have been nothing stopping a handy person from using the chassis from something in the yard to body swap onto their legal VIN vehicle. I suspect that isnt what you're getting at though.

Even for a track only vehicle in CA you're supposed to be able to prove you legally own it. That'll be tough in CA if the VIN was supposed to be destroyed. You might be able to green sticker it after going through the special construction title process?

Also just tell us what the car is sonwe can more accurately give you inapplicable alternatives. Sheesh

It’s not a CA car. What are the chances that CA would give me information about an out of state car?

It took a bunch of clicks, and three phone calls but I have now been told that the car is not a cash for clunkers car.

Now the the work begins.
