This was pretty fun.

They just rolled a 70 cuda out of the garage across the street from me. A 69 MG too. Never knew the OG was a car dude. Never saw them before.

He passed two years ago.. and I guess the son is going to restore them. 4 speed hurst tranny... etc.
My neighbor saw it and said it was the real deal. Bummed to not get a glimpse.

No turbos no wings no carbon wheels no paddles no BS.
The T50, Gordon Murry does it again. Likely the best supercar for the next 30 years. And people though the V12 was dead.

Buy one and put it away. You'll probably sell it for triple in just a few tears.

IIRC, windshields with tempered glass can be custom made.

In the late '70s someone built a custom VW Golf chassis which used Porsche 928 running gear. That car had to made 9" wider that a standard VW Golf. Check out the HP and 0-60 numbers in the R&T article for some back-in-the-day perspective. :laughing

LS swap it! :laughing

i'd do it in a heartbeat if the porsche engine shit the bed. unusual as they are to see these days the 928 isn't a rare car and porsche fanbois crying is funny (and they all hate the 928 anyway since the engine is in the wrong end)

LS in the front. Transaxle in the back. Pop up headlights.

So why not just get a C5 then?

ain't no corvette never gonna have that 70s german ass which is the worst, but also best, angle of the 928

also you don't have to buy any jorts to own a 928, just some white sneakers

230 HP from a stock 928. Kinda underwhelming these old school super cars. I suspect modern minivans come with more output.
Do they use a different method these days to measure HP?
I had a 5.0 Mustang I bought new in 1988. That sucker was FAST.
I have driven many newer cars that were rated with much more HP but would not hold a candle to that 5.0 (rated at 225 HP I believe).
Infact, the wife's Ford Escape is rated at 250 HP and it has nowhere near the acceleration .
The 5.0 would pin you in your seat. Loved giving friends a ride in that car. ;)

I’ve wondered about that also and because of the 5.0 Mustang. Knew a guy in HS with one and that thing hauled ass like nothing else I’ve driven. It was rated at something like 220 HP.

Google says that era 5.0 / GT is 7sec zero to 60, and 15.6sec @ 91mph in the quarter. It appears that all modern minivans are 280ish hp and run 0-60 between 6.5-7.8, and the quarter 14.5-16.1 (no mph given). The Honda is the benchmark for both.

I beat the crap out of my buddy's 5.0 and also thought it was pretty powerful, but this may be a case of 'the older I get, the faster I was.

Modern cars are heavier, no?

The '88 Mustang 5.0 is right around 3000lbs. That is pretty freaking light actually. The 2020 5.0 is 3700lbs

Been there, done that
When it comes to power, technology is good. Compared to today's offerings, a 928 or 5.0 would get smoked by a new V6 Camry. And if you compared acceleration, that 250 HP Escape is probably real close to the '88 5.0, though the V8 torque will make it feel "quicker".

I've had a few 5.0s, including a notch I bought new. That was a high-14-second car all day long at Fremont. I thought it was pretty damn stout at the time. Not so much anymore.

Bikes are the same. Early CB750s (before they got detuned for emissions and noise) were rated at 67 HP, and a stocker wouldn't break into the 12s. Z1s and H2s were 12 second bikes. Modern bikes are so fast, I've lost track... I know 600s were in the 10s, are they in the 9s now?

The old stuff looks cooler, but the new stuff works better!

Tim beat me to the punch, but yeah, it has to do with power-to-weight ratios. My dream car in high school was an '88 Notch 5.0 and it's pretty much still on my wishlist today. Too bad they're literally all clapped out or overmodified by douchebags anymore. You literally cannot find a non-molested late 80's (non-airbag) 5.0 Notch anymore.

Rose colored glasses. With 7 and 8 speed trannies, DI turbos everywhere, there are modern four bangers with meager hp numbers that are quicker than stock Fox body five-ohz.

Probably felt fast as shit back in the day, but then again 25mph downhill on your Huffy felt like a hunnert.
