Carb Overlaod

Another awesome bit of writing from the incomparable Mr. JP Burns, for all you jackholes who endlessly cry and moan about how terrible motorcycle writing is in the United States and wah wah wah I used to buy Performance Bikes at the newsstand at that was so epic because they didn't listen to the advertisers and they used to take the motorcycles apart and really test them blah blah blah.

Anyway, read this:

No complaining about the quality of writing on this side of the pond from me.
My list of examples begins with Peter Egan and yourself. It goes on from there.
Thanks for the link, Gabe.

Now that’s an article!

Also love the way you can read the whole thing without incessant pop up adds that end up being such a bother that you decide the article isn’t worth it.

Wow:wow I thought this thread was gonna be about doughnuts.

That said, I don't miss warming my engine up in the morning.

Yes--MO hasn't changed its format much in the last 15 years...which is why, sadly, I think it might be at high risk of getting killed for lack of profitability. I wish there was a business model to support quality journalism without paying for it.

I could make a snarky and sarcastic comment highlighting how consumers expect high-quality journalism to be free, yet have no such expectations for any other consumer product, but I won't, because it just makes me sad.

People spend billions and billions of dollars to watch dumb comic-book movies but won't spend 99 cents to read something an actual thinking human brain produced.

Every beer and soda pop can has one of those "special little washer" that spacers the jet needle up/richer.
About 90% of my used ICE vehicles have had an intake air leak/sick carb when I bought it.
Getting hundreds off the asking, just to replace a sucked in carb base gasket. Yep.

My work on FI, replacing fuel filters to get fuel pressure back up.

Great article and I can totally relate to every bit of it. Thanks for reminding me how much I miss receiving all "my monthly moto mags in the mailbox"...

He made one small error though. 2001 was the last year of the carbureted R1. I should know, I spent quite a bit of time cleaning and rebuilding them...:x
