Car trying to "race" me almost bins it

No speed limits or cars!
I was going North on Hwy 17, noticed a white VW GTI come buzzing up on my right. I was already weaving my way through traffic. Near Lexington reservoir the car went up the far right lane (which is a long right turn only lane) and by doing so ended up in front of me. I followed the car down the hill near Los Gatos....

Right hander - ok .... speeding up (ok with me) ..... left hander... ok .... car veering into the right lane where I was thinking about passing it...

The next right hander tightens up a bit relative to the ones before it... the car couldn't hold the line and DRIFTED left towards the wall and suddenly I had to consider - was he going to "stick" to the wall or bounce off across my path?

Luckily the car stopped going sideways about 6 inches from the wall and THEN the tanktop wearing 20-somethings decided to slow down :toothless

Anybody else with stories like this?

Almost the same deal on 17S. Pontiac Grand Prix with racing stripes passed me in a turn. I didn't even care, it was the end of my ride, I was just going home. Still this idiot barreled into the next turn with me behind him, and starts braking in the middle of the turn. I can only assume he was panicing that he wouldn't make it...40 mph turn, what a f'n pussy. I was already leaned to the right and had to lean more and pass on his right to avoid heavy braking in a turn.

When I encounter those folks I either ditch them in heavy traffic or slow up so that they go way in front of me. I don't need some kid with an ego problem tossing a cage around my area.

Yeah I get those type of drivers every now and then.. But most of the time, it's not worth even noticing... HWY 17 is probably the most "turns" some drivers ever encounter so they think they can show off there...

makes them look :cool until they nearly nail the wall. Some cagers need to learn the hard way...:x

Whatever that means
people have tried to race me a few times. i have found its best to slow down and not bother with them.

If you are racing another vehicle and they bin it, you put yourself at risk for being held liable for potential damages. Best to let them go.

Used to be cool...
i was leaving a stop light in Pleasant hill getting on the the freeway, some riced out yellow MR2 was next to me, light turns green, we both take off, as were going on the on ramp, i see water ahead in his lane and he keeps pushing so i take off and look behind me to see him fishtailing all over the place from hitting the water :laughing

I had an experience similar to this, one negative, one positive:

I'll start with the negative. I'm taking a trip down bear canyon rd, and i come up on 2 cars. One is a white mustang, the other is a black audi. I come on the mustang fully expecting the guy to be a dick and not let me pass, but suprise, at the next straight he waves me past and slows down so i can pass safely...i wave.

Then i'm behind the audi...and I see her look at me in the mirror, flip her hair, and then she takes off...i'm like...ok....whatever, follow her a ways. We come onto the long straight and i'm coming around the corner and she swerves into the oncoming lane to stop me from passing! :wtf So i burn past her on the next straight. Dumb broad.

On the good side:

Was coming down 9 and had a guy in an S2000 that absolutely stuck to my tail all the way down. Wasn't rude about it, wasn't disrespectful, kept a consistant 40-50 foot distance behind me, and never moved in the corners. I'm not big on gassing the hell of it down the straights, and he held me through the corners without any problems. It was great fun.

Riced out integra tries to follow me through east bound on the 84 coming off highway 1.

I spend the first section getting my tires nice and toasty and slowly pick the pace up the more rural it gets. Halfway to the junction for the 35 he's already screeching his tires and sliding into the oncoming lane just to keep sight of me. :( At that point I start to get a little scared and decide to lose this guy in a hurry. The next couple turns or so I really pick up the pace, and put on my best "get the f* out there!" face :mad .

All of a sudden I hear *screeeeeeeeeeech..... CRUNCH CRunch SNAP*

I look in my mirrors to see a little white tegra spun out and facing the wrong direction.

Now I immediately put on my, "oh my god! what a douche face!" :wtf And proceed to make a nice u turn and go back and check on my little visor wearing buddy.

He was fine, apparently he didn't realize how fast we entered the turn, lost traction on all of his wheels and proceeded to spin till the car was slowed against the cliff wall on the ride side after hitting it a couple of times. He was fine and the car was driveable. Though he did lose the ridiculously large wing on the trunk, which I think was the snapping sound.

Needless to say...lesson learned...for the both of us.

Me: Avoid integras at all cost!
Him: Stop trying to follow sportbikes on the twisties...or get a more capable car.

About once a week on my commute, I get the biz from some middle age dude in a Lexus or Mercedes. It’s always a different guy but they are middle aged and have the dry cleaning hanging in the back window. It seems that they just can’t stand to have a sporty cycle moving faster than them so they speed up. So I give the bike little rev’s to “jump” ahead. So they speed up. Pretty soon the same type loser in a BMW sees that he’s getting “owned” and decides to get into the act. The next thing you know, the two of them are racing each other off in the distance and I’m free to continue to just PutPut with the regular traffic. I'm always hoping that they'll be the one's getting the ticket around the next corner... :laughing

This is a regular occurence commuting over 17 everyday. On days that I'm feeling especially vengeful, I'll fling one toward the CHP. The Chippies are almost always sitting in the same spots on 17 (summit, just before and 1st curve after N&S) so I'll "play along" until right before the CHP then drop back and watch them rocket into the arms of Johnnie Law. I should get a commission. I've sent them at least 2 good customers so far.

Just last evening actually-I am approaching a 4 mile stretch of twisties running along side a stream on one side, steep embankment on the right. Some crap box coming up behind me, I sense it's coming up a bit aggressively. Lord forgive me, I dog it a bit to lure him closer...closer-wham! He tries to stay with me in the first right hander, drifts into the other lane-up comes a long, sharp, decreasing radius left hander, the ones that waver so you have to change your line part way through. Pegs digging in I see in the rearview that he's drifting toward the base of the embankment-then-he's gone. I get to the intersection at the end, turn and wait for him. Some time later he comes limping out. I point back, basically "Want another go?" He smiles sheepishly, waves and goes on past. Doesn't get any better.:)
