EDIT: Primary means of transportation in SF is BART and Uber.

TL;DR (only version you'll get): Visiting late August / early September. Bringing son and two gay friends (a couple originally from Florida). Wanna show them around. Here's what I got:

Any other suggestions?

San Francisco
Tue - Pier 39, Golden Gate Bridge, China Town
Wed - Lombard Street, Height/Ashbury, Castro
Thu - Golden Gate Park, Union Square, Alcatraz

Yosemite
Fri - Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, Tuolumne Meadows
Sat - El Capitan, Valley View, Lembert Dome
Sun - Tunnel View, Cathedral Peak, Bridalveil Fall
Mon - Glacier Point, Vernal Fall, Mariposa Grove

San Jose
Tue - Winchester Mystery House, Lick Observatory, ???

Oakland
Wed - Jack London Square, Oakland Zoo, China Town

Napa Valley
Thu - ????

I wanna do like 3-4 things per day. I know we can probably fit some other stuff in the days, but we also want to spend some time with my family and friends primarily in the evenings.

This would probably work a little better for you

You guys will be exhausted after this - assuming you're hiking it.

If you do not have a 1/2 dome pass, get to the ranger station before daylight and you might be able to snag a day of pass.

FLCL?
What do you mean Half Dome? I am guessing not hiking it, right? That's an all day thing, and you need permit to go last part on cables.

Lombard Street and North Beach are adjacent. Better to do them back to back. Head to Mario's Bohemian Cigar Store for grilled focaccia sandwiches. La Victoria bakery for phenomenal Tiramisu for dessert.

Beach Blanket Babylon is fun, but not everyone's cup of tea.

Pier 39 is awful. Alcatraz is worth a look if they're interested.
Taking the boat from the ferry building to Sausalito, having lunch, and coming back to SF ferry building is quite pleasant.

See what's playing at the Castro Theatre if they're at a loose end in the evening, especially if it's a classic (Vertigo on the big screen is sublime). Twin Peaks Tavern next door for a drink after. Walk down the street to Martuni's at Valencia and Market for another drink. Martuni's is hella gay, in the best possible way. Zeitgeist down the block for a nightcap.

Yeah, if you plan on actually hiking to the top of Half Dome, first, you better be prepared (food, water, shoes, clothing) and in decent shape. Second, you are going to spend the WHOLE day doing that. There will be no time for anything else, really. Also, the whole pass thing.

I would do Yosemite as late as possible. Half of Europe shuts down in August and comes to the US to visit Yosemite and Yellow Stone. I avoid Yosemite in the summer as much as possible due to the crowds.

Also, in my opinion, Winchester Mystery House is highly overrated and over priced. However, I see no point in going to Santa Clara County in general, unless certain music acts are playing at the Pavilion. :twofinger

Oakland: Jack London Square is ok, but there's better. Everett and Jones I consider to be decent barbeque, but if they're from or near the south you might well disagree.

Drake's Dealership on Broadway is a good spot for a beer and a bite to eat. The zoo is kind of out there, but up to you. You might have more fun taking a walk in Tilden or Redwood Regional Parks than going to the zoo.

You could get off Bart at Rockridge and make your way towards downtown on foot, getting sloshed along the way. Plenty of stores, bars etc in the way. The Oakland Museum of California is good too. Let me know if you want more route information / suggested stops.
