Have to agree. A very nice detailing will make that as cool as any cafe project...well maybe not any, but a lot. :laughing Nice bike!

Well Paul, that may have blown up on you! :laughing You've gotta buy a 'barely running when I got it...rigged fuel system...bent valved...sludge for fork oil...t-shirt for a seat cover' motorcycle. :rofl

Then these guys can't give you any grief for building up YOUR motorcycle! :thumbup

As mine sits now. Should be complete in a month or two. :ride

That is, I think, the horror most of us are experiencing. That bike is in close to mint condition. To start hacking it up to 'cafe', it... (shudder)

And yes, I wrote 'cafe' like that because most people wouldn't know a real cafe bike if it ran 'em over on it's way to *$'s. :p

Yeah, cherry bikes shouldn't be chopped up. Basket cases and barnfinds are ideal for new life as a cafe project.

Please don't chop it up, it's far too clean :(

:rofl The first picture was a far away shot, up close she showed her age :teeth

I got her cheap and will make her a great Cafe, below is the current status.

Ahhh that bike looks too nice to touch. Great idea making this thread BTW. I don't have any current pix of my CB200 (it's in pieces and pieces and pieces...), but here's a before pic:

and a before-that pic:

(This is what happens when you let your dad own a motorcycle)

Eager to see what you got in store for this project. I understand everyone's sentiments on keeping it as is, but I'm more for going the cafe route. I got my bike roughly 2 years ago and I just finished rebuilding every part of her to include the engine components. Runs like a gem and breaks necks all day long.!

have fun man

Looking good! :thumbup I like the yellow headlight. How do you like those Firestones? I've heard mixed reviews and decided to go with a more common tire (Michelin Pilot Activ's), if for nothing else then to save some money.

The tires work well for me. I don't race, do any crazy leaning or ride in less than optimal weather so they are perfect. I think most folks who oppose them are for the obvious reasons that they aren't the "best tire to go with"…. to each their own tho.

Oh, and the yellow is a film that I bought from Laminex.

that is a beautiful bike! did you do all the painting as well?

Thanks man. I did all the prep work, but the fairing and tank was done by my local body shop. I had them fill in the emblem where the Honda logo used to be and go from there. The fairings however, I did myself.

Yeah but be aware putting new/ultra-sticky rubber on something old (that was never designed for such sticky current rubber)...may be TOO SOFT for an old bike, & may input forces into the suspension/frame the bike was never designed for. Thus, wobbles/wallows & other funniness may result. I've seen it happen...

I get where your coming from; but i experienced this when putting ultra-soft rubber on my old H1b (Mach III 500 triple KAW.) It made an already unstable bike more unstable...it was happier w/older-harder tires. Today's rubber is better than yesterday's slicks....

Just and IMHO/FYI...:)

great thread! i have a 1972 Honda CB350 that the previous owner turned into a CL cosmetically (exhaust, tank, seat, side covers) it ran, but poor. when i opened up the right case cover to remove the oil screen, i found quite a bit of metal chunks :( I didn't intend on doing a rebuild, but turned this into an opportunity to make the bike i wanted so more power to you irish. at this point, i have my bike stripped down with the motor off and top end disassembled.
