CA Winter Gear

California winter i.e. a dash of rain, had me renew my winter gear, and I can (for now, not knowing how long it will last) say that my D-dry jacket and pants, and Sidi Black Rain boots are all water proof and very nice in this weather.

Buy rain overs, use regular gear

Well, I used to, but I've put 4k mi in this setup this summer/autumn and I've been extremely comfortable from a high of 89F to a low of 36F and sun and rain.
The stuff breathes and keeps me dry, which is more than I can say about any of my old gear.

Having to make a decision about whether or not to put on rain gear before you start, or having to pull over when it starts raining, is a huge pain. That’s why GoreTex gear is so much better - you just wear whatever you always wear and it doesn’t matter what weather does.

Agreed 1000% percent. Speaking only for myself, half the time I make the wrong decision. Either I put on the rain gear and it never rains, or I wait until I'm already in the deluge before pulling over and digging the rain jacket out of my luggage.

Never again, Gore-Tex for life.
