Wassup barfers,

question, I have a 2002 Yam r6 CA model which I would like to convert to the faster higher revvin' 49 state mode. would this be possible, and if so could someone please help me out. Reason is I bought a dyno/k&n jet kit from an online store, in which they sent me the wrong kit twice. Im just wondering if this is possilbe. Im tired of shipping back then waiting. I just want to learn and ride my bike already before summer gets here. damn it feels like a year already. thanks

i dont think its possible...im pretty sure the 49 stater uses a different cam to get that extra 1000 rpm. Ive asked the same question and seen people ask that question over and over and the answer is always no. At least i havent heard of anyone doing it successfully.

well you could start by adding two teeth to the rear sprocket, for some reason the cali mode has a 46 tooth rear & everyone else has a 48, (not sure if this is true on the 02")

just a little tip i heard from the R6 boys yesterday :D

Its possible. I have read up on it and I can even do it on mine, it invloves stuff like getting different cams, removing the smog stuff, etc. I dont think I ever will though, I dont need too much more power. :D :D

what smog stuff would i need to get rid of off a 96 zx6r. is it that black canister? There are two hoses coming from the gas tank to that black canister, could i just put plugs on those?

Totally off-topic... nice meeting and riding w/ you, WaveRave... although I didn't see much more than your taillights and a huge grin when I finally caught up to you and R Roku! :burnout

Yes it was nice meeting and riding with you as well. I was probably riding a little faster than I needed to be...but I think I was just releasing some work stress. Its all R Roku's fault he taunts me into riding hard :)

gmann, I don't know for the specifics of the zx6r, but I doubt its as simple as unhooking both hoses and pulling the charcoal cannister (or wahtever it's called). At least, on one of my bikes its not just connected directly to the gastank, but is part of the fuel/air loop. You'd have to reroute the hoses I think

thanks for the info. i have a service manual and they have a diagram of the CA model and the 49 state model. I'll try to figure out the diagram and try it out.

Reply to waverave R6

This is my first input, hope I did it right. What is in the picture that waverave R6 sent is the smog pump for his bike. What it is there for is to pump fresh air into the exhaust ports to promote additional burning of the hydrocarbons in the exhaust. If one were to check, one would find that the carbs. are running on the lean side to provide additional heat in the combustion process as well as running the timing a little on the retarded side help get some of the hot gasses into the exhaust system. If you look up any book on emissions, you'll find the theory on what is going on as far as each item of the emission system of any internal combusion engine. Some items will not rob you of power, such as crankcase ventilation or gas recovery canisters. If you own a modern bike with smog stuff, don't just start cutting and plugging tubes. Understand what you are doing and why. Some carbs have a vent tubes that provide a way for the bowls to displace gas into the venturi tubes, much like the sewer vent tubes in your home plumbing. If you plug up these tubes because you thought you were plugging up a smog tube, you will be sad and disappointed because now your carbs will not run right. Know what you are doing!!!!:burnout
