Californication.

Fuck California. Controlled by those that want our money in the name of us. Every penny for everything they can think of.

My wife won’t let me move or I would say duck this shit show.

It's a one time $25 tax... I'll bet almost everyone on this board pays 4-8 times that amount, yearly, registering their motorcycle(s). :laughing

It's a tax on each gun purchased.

How much you want to bet it gets pilfered and moved to some other silo for spending? Kind of like the gas tax increases gets you better roads.

My point remains, on a $500 Glock it would be a 5% tax, on a $1,500 AR it's only 1.67%.

To put that into perspective, since you brought up gas, people are paying ~ 13.5% in taxes for gas, assuming $3.50/gallon.

So yeah, this isn't really a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Youre kinda missing the forest for the trees. It's just one more thing after another after another after another after...

Sure, but can't you agree that some offenses are worse than others? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to go after the most higher taxes first?

The proposed tax is total bullshit, regardless of it being $25 or 25¢. CA continues to infringe on gun rights and most of us are really fucking tired of it.

If every bullshit anti-gun law isn't opposed, they'll get to a point where you, as a LEO, are going to be signing in and out your duty weapon and not be allowed to carry off-duty.

And on a $200 Pawn Shop .38, it's 12.5%.

More taxes on the poor.

I'm sure we'll soon need a background check to withdraw the $25 from the bank to pay for it.

Still less than the gas tax. Your point? :laughing

Methinks there's a lot of misdirected rage here. :thumbup

My point is all about the fees.... more government fees (taxes without being called a tax in so many cases). Wherever there is an opportunity to reach into the citizen's pockets they take it.

In my line of work I see it all the time.
This I don't really care about specifically except that once again.. a way to charge a fee has been established.

This x $25! Plus the added bureaucracy to “manage” the program.

As if another gun tax will slow down any criminals :x
It makes ZERO sense to put some tax on any firearms in a feeble attempt at curbing violence caused by some total idiot with a gun :facepalm
So how come they're not screaming for a stupid tax on knives now :x
Maybe a tax on humans being idiots will be the next tax they seek after all it is a human problem not the tool used - just sayn :teeth

Come on now. Government doesn't care about people, only about tax revenue.

What kind of tax will they think of next!

Those pensions won't pay themselves!

Just quoting your first post.

Only a one time tax? Just like the dros fee done on every gun is a one time fee. One time per transaction. It adds up and what benefit do we see from that fee? You have to pay a fee to get a firearms safety certificate. One time. Every 5 years it needs to be renewed though. What makes you think the pols won't change it to every couple of years? Every year?

You go in to buy your first gun with relatively little research other than you know you want a Glock. First thing they ask is do you have a firearms safet cert. No? Ok heres the test but it's $25 or whatever i can't remember. Hey you passed, congrats!! So you pick out the gun and they give you the total otd cost. What is a dros fee? Damn ok i'll pay it because i really want that gun. Plus sales tax on top of that. The cost is really going up with all these add ons.

Then the kicker. CADOJ is so messed up doling out info that now your regular DL is no good. Actually it is but only if it's the older version and many shops can't keep the ever changing info they receive curent or get differing answers from CADOJ depending on who they talk to. What do you mean i need a REAL ID? Well your DL says fed limits apply and that is a no-go for purchasing a gun. You still want that gun? Now you have to make an appt at the DMV to get a non "fed limits apply" REAL ID. At that point, i'm sure many people just throw up their hands and say "Fuck it. This is too much trouble." and walk out.

This is just an example of the incrementalism you hear gun owners talk about. There's no stopping the state. Here's another add on coming by Swalwell and voted on by the idiots in this state (potentially) to add a $50 per gun surcharge to "combat gun violence". It's just him yapping but it will gain traction and TA DA another fee.

Most people including gun owners are in favor of less gun violence so it passes big time. It doesn't and won't stop there. The long term plan by pols is to make firearms prohibitively expense to own by regular people, unless they can outright ban them.

There are members in congress talking about a huge insurance rider needed specifically for gun owners. Theres another fee or tax.

Hope this was at least a little informative.

Sorry for the rant. Just chaps my hide is all.
