CA-175, Middletown - Construction work?

Was up there yesterday, heading up to Cobb Mtn, when we came upon road work on 175 just out of town. Completely torn up and dirt as far as we could see. Group I was with didn’t want to do the dirt, so we bailed.

Anyone know how far it extends? Can you bypass it via 113?

Thanks.

It is at least a mile, and it is getting longer. It is a widening project. Stupid, as far as I am concerned. It is going to be all summer long. It is even worse when they wet the dirt down. Slicker than goose poop.

What is 113? Didn't think that was in our area. I live on Cobb.

If the construction is north of Cobb, take Bottle Rock Rd instead of 175 out of Cobb.
It's called Bottle Rock Rd because all the Obsidian along the sides of the road look like broken bottles. Stop and grab a few chunks.

Thanks - good to know. Bummer, though. Great ride up there.

Rte 113 aka Dry Creek Cutoff - on the map it's the road on the southwest side of the green triangle. The dirt starts where the blue pin is and goes north.

Based on the map, where are they headed from the point indicated? Are they heading north, away from Middletown /Hwy 29?

I'm riding up that direction on my way to Clear Lake in a couple of weeks.

Thanks!

They are only working during the week to my knowledge.

Dry Creek is currently NOT a dry creek at the moment, and unless you want a creek crossing and a challenge, I would stay away. My husband won't ride through there right now.

The construction is on Hwy. 175 shortly after you turn from Hwy. 29 in Middletown. Just past the few blocks of businesses. I know that the construction may be going almost to the start to head up the mountain on 175. If you are just riding on 29 and not coming up 175, you should not have any issues from the construction.

Road tickler
I rode through on Saturday and the dirt section north of Middletown on 175 just outside of town was a complete non-issue :dunno

Maybe 5 minutes of hard pack dirt? It was completely street tire friendly.

Yes, I should have qualified that the construction with 10-20 minute waits is Monday through Friday. That is also when they spray that hard packed dirt with water and it is so slick that I almost slid out in my SUV going 15 miles an hour. Weekends, not as bad.
