Buying a new smartphone

Beanzy

Wind free
Am going to need to get a new one by summertime (next month?), when I hope a good sale's going on. My budget is cheap, so something under $300 for me, probably a Motorola G Power. (Tend to drop my phones, so an expensive 'phone is not an option.)

Three days' worth of battery power is a major and attractive selling point to me as to the G Power. Plus it runs on Android Pie. (Will buy that chemical-impregnated cloth at Costco to keep the nice screen intact.)

So if you were in the market for a new smartphone, what criteria would you be considering?

Thanks.

old and slow
I have both the G Power (2 weeks) and G7 Power (a year?) both equipped with expandable memory card. If you don't need the latest and greatest processor/cameras, they can't be beat. I've been very happy.

edit: I should also add battery life is incredible as you know (which is my #1 buying factor with a smartphone; I hate worrying about charge). Normal daily use (but I don't facebook/snap/twitter, etc.) +2 hours of video streaming will net me 75% charge after 16 hours unplugged. I've dropped the G7 power at least three times (in a smaller TPU case), and the only thing that's broken has been the aftermarket glass screen protectors.

Fear me!
My kids used to have the Moto G6 and G7. The wifi on the G6 was so-so, it was only an issue when they played high bandwidth games. The wifi on the G7 was a little better. For facebook, browsing and other typical stuff it should be fine. Get a good case, my son's G6 got a cracked screen from a freakish small 1ft drop from the top of his backpack to the concrete ground. He had a cheap soft case and a screen protector.

Pixel 4a will probably be out by then if you want something with a flagship camera and mid tier specs at a budget price. I bought pixel 3a's for all the technologically challenged individuals in my family and they all love them, my dad did just destroy his yesterday though.

If you are only concerned about battery life and basic smart phone functionality the g power is probably your best bet. It is BIG though 6.4"

Battery life on Pixel phones are just average to below average. The Pixel 4 battery life is pretty horrible, no idea if the 4a will be better with less power hungry hardware. I have the 4XL now and had the Pixel 2 before that. Great phones that are pricey, I waited until they were on sale for ~40% off before buying. Battery life is not a priority for me though.

Whatever that means
If you drop your phone a lot (I really don't get people who do this, It's half glass, treat it like that...) Make sure you can get a phone that will have good cases for it. Like an otterbox AND a quality screen protector like the dbrand prism.

The 3a and 3aXL both have great battery life.

If you care about taking photos, the Pixel phones all have the best camera available on Android. The Moto will.. not.

....actually I just had another browser window open, and the Samsung Galaxy A51 is on sale for $229 and you get free wireless headphones. Buy that.

Damn thats a killer deal. Almost makes me want to ditch my note 9 but I really like the phone and don't need an upgrade really.

Edit: That price is only valid with a trade in. Still even at full price 399 with the earbuds is a good deal.

Maybe most of their drinking containers at home are plastic or aluminum cans for a reason.

Some folks are just flat clumsy.

I have the LG Stylo 4. It's been a great phone with expandable memory. I have had it for at least 1 year and it was only $220.
