The '12 Concours 14 needs front brake pads (at only 17K mi.... sheesh ! )

Questions:
1) what would be the aftermarket equivalent to the stock/factory pads ? HH ?
2) any favorite aftermarket brands ? why ?

Thanks !

Sometimes the stock pads are the best for the street. EBC HH are ok. Vesrah RJL are great.

I just went through this with my Bandit 1200 that is ridden hard but never sees the track.
I replaced my front pads with Galfer, then the next set was EBC.
I need them again, going back to OEM.

I'm a big EBC HH fan.
Not a Versah fan at all, I think they require too much heat to be a good street pad.

:thumbup I'm a big EBC HH fan as well.
Based on Street, Public Highway, and how I use my brakes, etc. :thumbup

I'm OEM on my street bikes, EBC GPFAs on track. Prefer progressive over aggressive engagement.

I have used EBC HH (regular ones) on several occasions and sooner or later they always start to squeak and groan. After complaining to EBC they sent me some other their special race pads that were great. Since I have been happy running Galfer stuff on my GSXR.
Stock organics on my KTM still provide eye-popping bite/performance.

Another vote for Vesrah here. I use the SRJL 17s and love them. They do need some heat in them so if "set it and forget it" speaks to you, you might do better with the EBCs. I just drag the brakes a little off and on for the first couple of miles until they warm up and I can get a decent bite. For me it's a great trade off for a higher level of braking force than the EBCs. When cold the pads still have enough braking force to lock the front wheel. How I saved that one I don't know. They just don't modulate well at first and there is some shuddering as the cold pads begin to produce friction. .

Thank You for the input :hail

I went with the OEM pads because;
1) local dealer stocks them ( also stocks the EBC)
2) earlier years of this model had some disc issues, I didn't have time to read up on it

I will do some research for the next set of pads though, I needed these NOW.

One cool thing I learned; if you have the same bike that the LEO's ride, and shop at the place that these bikes are maintained, then they will likely have a good stock of normal wear items ;) :ride

Not as fast as I look.
Thanks Mr. planegray for bringing up one of these equipment discussions. We haven't had one in awhile.

In general, I find the EBCs more consistent through the temperature range. The SRJLs take a lot of warmth to work. Do not leave them on for street use.
I've found that the oem pads on my CBR actually did quite well.
Until ....... they go into ultra fade along with the Master. Of course you changed your M.C.. For street use, Honda pads are fine. I found them lacking even at track day speeds. Yeaaaaa, I got my 3 cents in. :party Carry on with more experienced opinions.

Um, yeah...I meant for street use. Otherwise the Vesrah's go in.

I liked the EBC HH on the buell rear brake but was surprised they didn't was as long as I had expected. I tried organic pads and they wore way to quickly. Right now I'm running EBC FA and I like them, they seem to last about as long as the HH and are half the price on ebay. I did get them smoking a bit on Doc Wongs ride coming down Jamison Creek but they didn't glaze.
