Brake sizing for brake upgrade

Strange. My SRX 6 of similar vintage has, what I think, good braking characteristics currently. They were wooden in the past, and I think all I changed were the pads. The RZ calipers have opposed pistons, yes?

What pads did you use?

My lever ratio is 3.6. You know I actually did move the master in as far as possible and it does help. Still leaves some to be desired though.

I am using Vesrah JL sintered street pads. I have used them before and been very happy. I have a set of SRJL8's that will fit if I go with 929/954/600 calipers and those are insanely powerful yet progressive.

Mine is closer to 4.75. ~95mm from pivot to first finger. ~20mm from pivot to piston. That’s ~30% more than yours.

I’ve never used either of those pads. Here’s the latest comparison. Seems like you’ll get some bite and ok power from 8’s. I can’t find a comparison that includes the JL. Maybe someone else will chime in about those.

Good to know. 30% is a big difference. I am looking at around a 40% difference by going to 4 pot calipers. I measured 28mm pivot to piston and 100mm pivot to first finger.

As a side note - I have to wonder what they were thinking. Seems so far off from modern brakes, but a relatively simple thing to figure out for a manufacturer.
