Brake Free — on Shark Tank tonight

If it’s a benefit to cars it should also be a benefit to bikes. Not sure I’d run one but if I commuted by bike I probably would.

Great product. Cool Xmas gift for a moto rider in your family.

Unfortunately, it's just a matter of time before online vendors starts selling knock offs for $25. The technology behind it isnt too complex

Impossible to compete with rip-offs and make any profit. I hope the sharks can find a way to help them reduce the cost rapidly and stay competitive.

I had something similar about 8 years ago on my helmet, but it tapped into the brake and signal lights.

Agreed. I thought it was a neat product and wanted it until I saw the price. To gain mass acceptance I feel it needs to sell for less than 1/2 the current price, or below $50, even. Amazon already sells something similar (auto sensing brake lights) cheaper for bicycles.

This already happened prior to the indiegogo shipment.
I believe they were successful at removing them from amazon early on.
You know when you build it in china you lose all legal rights to your patent...its the chinese way to screw anyone who thinks they can make a buck without including them in it.
Look at all the chinese knock offs on sites like geek and bangood
Intellectual property means nothing to them.:thumbdown
Lets hope they can succeed, it is a great product and good people who worked very hard on this IMO:teeth

Didn't mean to distract from their achievement.

Being on Shark Tank itself is a great ad for their product. Being funded by them is a whole another level!!

Congrats to the team.

It is patented for what that is worth.

There is this country that is a fantastic manufacturing location and doesn't give a sh*t about patents. It's like a giant 3d printer for anything. I won't mention any names. Sad.

In any case this product looks like a fantastic idea. If I find myself commuting this is definitely going on the Christmas list.

Anyone know if the battery can be replaced? How long it takes to charge?

We all have different thresholds for products.

I don't commute nor ride at night so this is not so important to me, but it could save you from getting rear ended so if I did the above the $170 would be well worth it.

I get fresh tires often because of safety so to me this safety device is worth it. Well to be clear I buy the stickiest tires I can so I am safer being the nutcase that I can be. :teeth

Wish them good luck of course...!

True! I put a $300 Clearwater brake light on my 2020 BMW S1000XR. The two combo turn signal/tail light/brake light that comes on it SUCKS.

What are the stats on motorcyclists being rear ended? I did a Google search but didn't find a good source . Found a bunch of articles by accident attorneys. The numbers I've seen are low. I feel while it does happen and it's often on our minds. The fear's bigger than the actual risk.

Let's consider the cagers' point of view. When I’m driving, I often find having a motorcycle in front of me visually distracting, due to its smaller size and quicker relative movement against a background of other 4-wheel vehicles. The distraction also comes from the extra concern of not want to hit a vulnerable motorcyclist. I’m always glad when it speeds away out of sight.

I recall seeing a rider with a helmet-mount rear light on Hwy 87 at night. It was such a strange and unusual sight - a bright, moving red light up high against a sea of steady, lower red tail lights. Our eyes are attracted to movements (and light at night) so I had a hard time not fixating on it and worried about missing other things in traffic. We want to be seen in traffic on our bikes, but could one attract too much attention?

Is it better to have the extra tail/brake light mounted on the bike or on the helmet? I may prefer on the bike for the reasons above (a lower, steady light that's less distracting to other motorists at night), but helmet-mount has the advantage for multi-bike owners.

I don't know off the top of my head, but DataDan has discussed in the 1Rider forum. There is enough of them to be considered and usually injuries are going to occur.

It happened to me at 7:15 in the morning (years ago) as I was yielding to oncoming traffic before making the left turn off a two lane road in to the driveway of my work. That was the end of my one and only Honda sport bike. (CBR1000)
Yes, there are drunk drivers out at that hour. He was driving a Sherwin Williams paint delivery truck. When the responding officer asked him what happened he said "I didn't see him there and I just smoked him."
I replied "I have nothing to add, officer."
