the kid lost half his butt and part of his pelvis too. to me, hes seriously disfigured and I feel bad for him :(

Do we have a right to personal safety everywhere we go?

not everywhere. but on maintained land where the govt is paying someone to not have trees fall on people and campsites, yep.

Doctors determined the only way to save his life was to amputate his right leg, buttock and pelvis. He underwent 30 surgeries and initially spent six months in a hospital.

... guessing he lost more than his leg,
buttock and pelvis
based on how much they paid to keep
it from going to a jury ... :dunno

I imagine given the choice he would gladly exchange his leg, butt and pelvis for the 40 million. Poor kid.

I like how the article says that "he" sued, when we all know full well that some scummy lawyer was listing off agencies they could extort money from.

perhaps his parents saw the medical bills from such extensive surgeries and needed to sue otherwise their lives would be fucked.

A right to personal safety everywhere we go...hmm. This is an organized campground with numbered sites and not just out in the middle of national forest land? Then yes, doing your due diligence includes the occasional walk around looking for dead trees that can fall within the campground boundary. They're easy to spot and it usually takes at least a year or two after they die before they're rotten enough to fall, so there's no excuse, imo. Just close the campground of they're not willing to look for dead trees.

I’m sure a large majority of the money is going to go to present and future medical bills as well as long term care.

Quadriplegic, or even, losing the use of ONE arm is waaaay worse than one leg, or even BOTH legs.

You need your arms and hands as a human much more than your lower body. Doesnt need to ADA a house, doesnt need an ADA vehicle...I suppose there could be complications internally as a result.

47mil...is like 30mil after fees....the hospital bills COULD be staggering--depends on insurance, really--but 30 mil for someone who will be able to maintain a mostly normal life and be able to do almost anything as a career still is crazy.

Well, let's start at your hip, cut over to the middle of your body and then cut down.

And then you go and try to live a "normal life.

What's normal?

Young kid.......playing outside, sports, running, jumping, kicking, climbing, be able to do group things with other kids......and so on.

There are lots of normal things he will never be able to do.......ride a motorcycle, water ski.....mountain climb.....and so on.

And I'm not sure what his future will be like........no pelvis, no butt, no leg Is there even a prosthetic that can replace those things? And at what cost?

Then there's the mental side..........the kids life will never be normal again.

Pretty sure handicapped kids can have just ss much fun as a "normal" kid. Some might even have more.

Literally none of those other activities requires[\u]two legs. Easier with two? Yes.

He lost half a pelvis and half a buttocks. I see no reason a prostheses couldn't be made at an angle?

Mental. Sure. We all have mental issues. Even normal kids like me grow up as bitter pieces of shit...I'm sure we can agree on that.
