BMW SUV 1, Motorcycle Thief 0

Bad Dad

Laughing at the hypocrisy
It was apparently a 50, and he was riding it at 2 in the a.m.

(as reported by Billswim when I was riding my 50 around his shop last night)

it's monkey madness!
My neighbor was telling me that the parents ar epissed because the police won't release whether the driver was drunk. They say the police are treating them badly 'because they're black'...

Another example of how people just don't want to accept responsibility. A kid that just got out of juvi, now he's on a stolen bike, and all this before he is even legal to drive.

Was there a reason to believe the driver was under the influence?

Good job jumping to conclusions and insulting a dead kid in one post. Do some homework first before labeling the kid as a thief. This story was in another paper that i read and they stated the bike had been reported stolen months ago, and that they were not sure how the kid had come into possesion of the bike. Maybe the kid just bought a used dirt bike from a friend, of a friend etc... Doesnt make him a theif. To me, the death of a dead 15 year old seems for more tragic than some guys dirt bike getting stolen.

Also, I believe that they stated that they were unsure if the BMW driver ran the stop sign, if the kid ran the stop sign, or if they both ran the stop sign. Sad either way. Not something that should be tallied up as a "victory" against motorcycle thiefs. May the kid RIP, to younge to go.

Sorry if I have offended you. First of all, the article linked stated that the dirt bike was stolen and that the kid ran a stop sign. If you have other information available please link it so we all can get a different scoop of the story.

Well, it's true that it's fairly easy to come into possession of stolen property. It's also usually pretty easy to tell, i.e. if it seems like too good of a deal, it probably is.

Unfortunately, the article doesn't give anything more specific than the kid running a stop sign. It is a shame that he is dead because of that, I see people do it everyday.

Living in a pretty sketchy part of Oakland, though, I see these kids on the pocket bikes, electric scooters, etc., and they are a tough bunch. Kinda like those freaky little kids in Hostel. They scare the crap out of me and I'm usually carrying.

I wonder if people like the dead thief's family ever consider that they are not getting a hard time for being black but rather because their sweet baby was a scumbag thief.

That's pretty much what the law says. If it's being sold at a price unreasonably below fair market value, you'd better assume it's stolen!

im tired of how everytime some person (adult or kid) die under some tragic circumstances or is busted for some criminal acts, everyone they interview would say the same tired ass shit - "oh _____ was a great person/_______ was a bright kid/______ could never do such a thing/it is so not in ______'s character".....oh please STFU and tell the truth, _______ can be an asshole just like anyone. ______ is not the greatest/most normal person uve ever met. and _______ probably deserved whatever he/she got.

Of course not. We live in an age where nobody's at fault for anything.

Here's the Oakland Tribune story:

http://www.insidebayarea.com/oaklandtribune/localnews/ci_4056576

No indication that the kid stole the dirt bike. The Oakland P.D. said he was trading off with another teenager in joyriding on the dirt bike. He was struck just a block away from home and wore no helmet. If the kid was riding a bike he didn't own, ddn't have a license to drive or ride and so no driver's ed, he might not have thought twice about driving through an intersection at 2 a.m. without any headlight. Esp. since he was just out having fun on a new toy and at a time when few cars are around. Also looks like the Oakland P.D. didn't give the SUV driver a breath test. Which is too bad, because the dead kid's family can still file a wrongful death lawsuit against him on the assumption that he was drunk and ran a stop sign. His insurance company ought to defend him.

Good news: Looks like the bike owner will get it back.

Yeah, and I agree that it's bad when somebody dies period. But my initial reaction yesterday morning after reading the SF Chron news brief was: Tough luck, kid.

That he lost his life at the tender age of 15 is a shame.

There remains, however, the fact that he was out at 2:00am, unlicensed and riding a vehicle not intended for the street. Nevermind that it was a stolen vehicle.

The way I see it, either his parents of guardians allowed him to be out or he snuck out. Neither is acceptable.

So what the hell is a 15 year old allowed out of the house at 2am, as well as his 14 year old friend mentioned in the article?

Great parenting on that one.

Parenting skills are one of the reasons this world is turning worse everyday. Its really true if you think about it. Its been proven by examing people in prison and whether they had good or bad parenting when they were younger.
