But wouldn't the wallet have been password protected?

My understanding is there would need to be a "key" to move anything from that wallet to another wallet. I guess that is like password protection. So I would say yes.

I'm sure the government could compel someone to provide the necessary information

yup, the thing with PKI is that there must always be way for another party to unlock. Otherwise how would you ever be able to sell and buy any of it?

Whelp, can't find the original bitcoin thread, but it's value went above 17k.
Wow! A whole new batch of suckers feeding it's rise.
Those of you who bought at 8k are sitting pretty.

Can someone use this as a method to move funds out of Brazil for a legal business? Asking for a friend...

Perhaps the OP of this thread could request a merging, he wasn't around when the previous thread went into hibernation, he'd probably enjoy reading through the original one.

Yes!!! Let's merge!!!

How un-blockchain of you. We should have at least ten alt-threads with derivatives of the same content in them, five of which were abandoned within days of being created, three of which were abandoned after a couple of posters reaped a bunch of profits out of them, and the other two still limping along with a few heavily invested posters who are so far underwater they'll get the bends if they stop posting now.
