Hi all,
TL;DR: Bike is prolly salvageable and I walked away with some bruises. Big thank you to everyone that reached out and offered me help and well wishes.
I just wanted to first of all thank everyone that helped me out today, and especially to Blake for coming out to help a complete stranger. All the people on the accident scene, witnesses, driver of van that I hit, CHP, Caltrans, firefighters, insurance lady, THANK YOU to all of you. It was a very confusing time and you all helped me out in some way.
The van I hit had a couple dents in the rear liftgate (?) and bumper, and no obvious injuries to the driver or passenger. I estimate I was going about 15 mph prior to hitting them, based off memory plus my gopro footage.
Bike still runs. I'm still processing everything, but slowly getting through it. It wasn't a big spill or anything, but regardless my gear saved my ass tonight.
This is actually my second accident ever on a bike. The first was about 18 years back on my first ever bike, where all I was wearing was khaki pants and a fleece pullover. I had road rash all down both forearms, which took years for the scars to diminish. Fast forward to tonight, I'm nursing a bruised thigh/knee and a tiny gash on my finger. Gear saved me big time.
As far as the bike goes, the headlight is mashed into my right fork, preventing me from doing a full lock turn to the left. Front fender and headlight fairings cracked. The rest of the bike somehow survived without a scratch, aside from a broken clip on my tail bag.
Helmet has no scratches or obvious damage, but my gopro mount was slightly bent out of position, so I'll prolly be replacing it (the helmet, mount is fine). I got a couple scratches on my A* leather jacket's left shoulder armor, but nothing else. Leather pants were scuff free.
I'll need to get the bike checked out, but from moving it around, it seems everything is still relatively straight.
Also, depending on repair costs, I may be in the market for another used bike (one with ABS this time) while I work on getting my R3 road- and/or track-worthy.
And one final note, this community/forum is awesome!
