Big Bikes On Little Trails

I Don't Do GPS
Hey, everyone! I know it's been awhile since I've posted a ride report. I haven't been riding much since I broke my ankle on my birthday ride in March of last year. in fact, that was my last ride report. Eric busted himself up pretty good on my first real ride back, and that was a 3 month ordeal. Lots of health issues, family issues, house issues…you know, life just getting in the way of a good time. Anyway, I've been home sick for awhile, started going through a lot of photos and decided it was time to attempt another one…if I remember how. Go easy on me, please :)

Our friend Mark got himself a brandy-new BMW and wanted to go on a big bike ride. Eric and I saddled up the 950 and the Husky 650 and we all met up for breakfast on our way to Hull Creek up off HWY 108…

That trail was a bust but we managed to find some good granite to play on anyway…

It was hot on the granite, good time for a lunch stop…

Which means I had time to wander around and look at all the pretty flowers!

Ok, let's go find some dirt!

Yeah!
file_zpsc3992ca5.jpg

Eric's digging it, too...

This section was kind of long and uphill with some tight spots so there weren't many photos. Mark and I stopped for a rest and spent a little too much time waiting for Eric…

More later…

We waited for Eric long enough to know that something wasn't right, so we suited up (sorta…it was hot!) and turned around…

Eric must have heard us coming as he was waiting with the camera and caught us coming up the trail…

Seems he got hung up in a really silty uphill right-hander. It was tough…I had to battle my way through it earlier and barely made it. We're not on knobbies…

Nice! Do you have tracks for this?

Glad to have your ride reports back on BARF, they're always gems.

I don't, and I don't think Mark runs a GPS but I'll ask him. This was up at Hull Creek. Most of the trails are marked there but they're a little disjointed. Lots of quad-worthy stuff up there, I was rather surprised to find quality trails!

Thank you! It's been a rough year, and I'm hoping to be back on track here real soon. I went through lots of photos during some digital housecleaning and I realized there were rides that never got documented. I never even did a ride report for my 2-week Utah trip through Canyonlands NP in 2014! I need to get it documented, more so for my own self before my failing memory completely loses the details :(

Adverse Selection
Tami, great to see you posting here again! How's the ankle doing? I was back for a check up on mine this past week, and it's come along nicely. Still a little stiff sometimes, and I don't have quite 100% of motion yet, but close. I hope you're doing at least as well.

Thanks, Kurt! Ankle is great, no issues. Glad to hear yours has been relatively trouble-free, too! I really wouldn't know what to do with 100% range of motion in any of my joints :laughing

Time to find some water to cool off in and a place to set up the tents…

We set up camp, ate some dinner and shot the breeze around a fire pit that did not have a fire in it. Restrictions, don'cha know.

Up early the next morning, hoping to find a route down to a river…can't remember which one…sorry…

Mark is a really good rider and he rides this BMW like a dirt bike. He really likes it!
file_zps55fe8b8e.jpg

There was lots of this going on…
file_zpsfd24e703.jpg

Oops! The BMW touches terra firma for the first time, but it was just a tip-over. Luckily the 2nd time it happened, when I was on it, Mark was not so quick with the camera :teeth

file_zps3021af11.jpg

The area had experienced a fire in the previous year or so and there were lots of closed trails and locked gates everywhere. We ended up getting frustrated and running out of time and fuel so we headed back up over the ridge and decided to just bomb back down the hill and head for home.

We had a great time up there on the singletrack (well, singletrack for big bikes, anyway) and I wouldn't mind going back up there later this summer.

Hey WC,

Great pic ... good to see
everyone back riding ... :ride

Looking forward to seeing
where you wind up with those
loaded bikes ... :thumbup:party

Thank you, John! We ended up going around in circles, mostly. It was fun anyway, though. Not a bad way to spend a weekend :thumbup

I'm so glad to see a woodschick report. I love big bukes and street tires. Subscribed!

I'm loving your campsite , too, and the swimming hole.

Thank you, TWT! :)

I rode to Portland and back on mostly dirt for my nephew's wedding, so that ride report is in the pipeline. I wasn't on full-on street tires (sorry!) but we did carry a telescope and a Warn M9000 winch for my Jeep so that should count for something…right? :laughing
