Beware the Nissan Rouge and auto braking

Yeah, don't tailgate and all that.

As we all know though, it isn't a perfect world and traveling down a divided road and having a car go into emergency braking for no reason is a real danger even if you maintain adequate following distance. Another drive that didn't allow for enough distance or someone not paying too much attention can present a danger to you anyway.

Traffic is treacherous as it is, having an auto braking system suddenly do its thing for no reason doesn't help.

Thanks, forwarded that article to my brother who's wife is looking for a new SUV.

I sold my first F800ST moto with ABS and got one without because that system would take away your brakes for no reason while braking over ripple bumps in the dry.

This "braking for no reason" problem sounds just as bad.

It seems the more tech built into vehicles the more we'll be at the mercy of software.

In this case, a software update...calling Boeing. The thing is, when the tech becomes so prevalent, problems will affect huge numbers of vehicles all at the same time.

Scary future related to this. The coder had a bad day, the QA was the reason, and you get the car that drives off the cliff.

I've been trying to find a nice mid 80s LandCrusher, without the luxury crap the new ones have. Automatic Brake Slamming, no thanks!

This happens on my Tesla from time to time when on autopilot. Have to override with the throttle. People probably think I'm drink. I think it false detects an overpass shadow as a wall or something.

I'm just saying this isnt limited to one make or model. Drivers need to be aware of how to manage the technology that's in their cars.

Theres a term for this, it’s called phantom braking. When a AV thinks something is infront and applies brakes, most the time, heavily.

Since drivers haven't managed to limit the basic tech in their cars all that well, adding new tech and thinking they will manage that too seems a stretch.

In this case, managing the tech isn't the problem, the tech is faulty. That is the real problem here, people are being sold tech on the basis that they can do less and worry less and then they are supposed to react to the car they are in suddenly braking for no reason?

Sooner or later, one car will do something all by itself, the other tech heavy cars will react and the mother of all collisions will result.

Do they make a jammer that activates the emergency response?

When will 007's trick lighter do this to the following bad guys?

Exploitation, hacking of new tech?
Money ! ! !

Well anyone that buys a Nissan or Tesla failed at exercising good judgement so no surprises here.

Kinda of reminds one of the 737 Max. We are beta testing. :rofl

Seems like a silly reason to sell a F800ST, I got one specifically because it has ABS. Works great, I've had to use it in the city already.

I'm of the opinion that all bikes that ship in the US over 125cc should have ABS standard. It's easy enough to disable if you wanna lock up your front end and grind yourself into the pavement :thumbup

Almost crashing into gas pumps at a station with a sloped driveway leading up to it must have triggered the anti stoppie 'feature" which released my front brakes momentarily.

That was enough for me.

The F800GT that replaced it had a longer swingarm that might have helped reduce that tendency as when I was on the F800 forum that was not an issue I recall with that model while there were MANY that had similar issues with the F800ST implementation.

Only one other member IIRC got rid of the bike like I did.

I'm perfectly happy with my non ABS F800ST.

Never mind that the "feel" at the lever was much much better without the ABS.

I'm certainly not against ABS, I'm just against poorly executed ABS and poorly executed braking systems and, certainly, poorly executed "anti stall" systems in aircraft.

Haven't run into that situation hmm. I have had the rear kick off when I go braking and downshifting into a corner a bit too enthusiastically... that's really just a sign I need to slow down to begin with.

After I sold the F800ST with ABS back to the dealer for one without ABS BMW made a suggestion for all their ABS bikes, not sure it still holds true or not for newer designs.

The recommendation, which made sense, was to always use the rear when braking and to touch it just a hair before engaging the front.

I'm a chronic "only front brake most of the time" rider in the dry and realize that incorporating the rear more often would be a good thing.

Likely that would have taken care of my particular "issue" with that particular system.
